The largest attack campaign against Democrats this fall is being waged by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, a trade association organized as a 501(c)(6) that can raise and spend unlimited funds without ever disclosing any of its donors. … A ThinkProgress investigation has found that the Chamber funds its political attack campaign out of its general account, which solicits foreign funding. …

This is a huge story, an American trade association that collects funds from foreign companies, running attack ads against Democrats across the country. Here's some follow up to the report.

Sen. Al Franken is calling for the Federal Election Commission to investigate allegations from a liberal group that the U.S. Chamber of Commerce — the pro-business association that’s said it will spend $75 million on the midterm elections — used money from foreign corporations for its political ads.

The possible commingling of secret foreign money into these groups raises fresh questions about whether they are violating both the letter and spirit of the campaign finance laws. The Federal Election Commission, which has been rendered toothless by its Republican members, should be investigating possible outright violations of the Federal Election Campaign Act by foreign companies and the chamber.

The Internal Revenue Service, which is supposed to ensure that these nonprofit groups are not primarily political, has fallen down on the job. Last week, Senator Max Baucus, Democrat of Montana and chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, demanded that the I.R.S. look into whether the tax code was being misused for political purposes, and, on Tuesday, two watchdog groups made the same request of the agency.

The government needs to make sure that the tax code — and American control of American elections — is not being violated.

The three major networks said nothing. CNN devoted an hour to a hard-hitting interview with Liza Minnelli. However all of the news organizations breathlessly reported a study which discovered that Frito Lay's Sun Chips biodegradable bag makes too much noise when you reach in for a chip so they're going to redesign the bag.

American elections decided by foreign interests or noisy potato chip bags. Hey, it's a no-brainer, babe. Everybody eats potato chips.

Another proud moment for our corporate media.

Foreign interests are buying the American election. So what's the debate on DebatePolitics.com?

Has anything been proven about foreign money. It seems that the comedian senator took some info from some group in Wash. and is running it up the flagpole.

Red herring.

Anybody other than me suspect that in 2008 Obama got Foreign Money watered down at several points and nothing has been done about it since - after all he DECLINED the Public set aside $$$$$ which McCain took and therefore he wasn't subject to the same post Election review that the McCain camp had. Also the MSM at the time and later would have had zero interest in pursuing such a story.

Any guess's on where some of it might have originated ???

Money = Free Speech

That's all there is to it.

It's time that the U.S. Chamber of Commerce revealed who's paying for their attack ads.

Excerpted from a public letter from Justin Ruben, MoveOn.org Executive Director to Lanny Breuer, Assistant Attorney General—Criminal Division U.S. Department of Justice, dated October 5, 2010
… [T]he Chamber has dispatched former Ambassador Frank Lavin to speak before foreign Chamber affiliates about what is at stake for business in the 2010 midterm elections. If, as it appears, the Chamber is soliciting contributions from foreign corporations and foreign nationals while communicating to them the importance of the U.S. elections, the Chamber is at least indirectly soliciting contributions from foreign nationals for use in connection with U.S. elections.

You mean Obama and the executive director of Moveon both want to make this an issue? Forget what I said before, now I'm convinced.

If Democrats were outspending Republicans 7 to 1, would you hold the same opinion?

Is the imbalance in spending even remotely related to these bull**** claims of foreign funding?

Well if one can somehow inject your political affiliation or lean, then it completely invalidates your post. Debating 101 Right.
