Only a CNN headline at the moment....but this one promises to be juicy!!!!

I can't wait till they offer that picture of the poor distraught couple in their convertible, in Vanity Fair, lol.

What a crock!

Re: Ex-CIA operative Valerie Plame sues Vice President Cheney, his former aide, Scoot

Excerpts from CNN:

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The CIA officer whose identity was leaked to reporters sued Vice President Dick Cheney, his former top aide and presidential adviser Karl Rove on Thursday, accusing them and other White House officials of conspiring to destroy her career.
...
The lawsuit accuses Cheney, Libby, Rove and 10 unnamed administration officials or political operatives of putting the Wilsons and their children's lives at risk by exposing Plame.

"This lawsuit concerns the intentional and malicious exposure by senior officials of the federal government of ... (Plame), whose job it was to gather intelligence to make the nation safer and who risked her life for her country," the Wilsons' lawyers said in the lawsuit.

I think the fact that Novak is not being sued is indicative of the political nature of this lawsuit.

Truth is, these people want to have their cake, and eat it too.

On one hand, this woman is supposed to be so secret, but then suggests her husband go to Niger, in one of the most important issues facing the war. Then he writes an op-ed, trashing the admin, and every other intell agency that agreed, and they expect this will all just remain secret. Truth is, either they set their ownselves up, or they did this on purpose, hoping this would happen. Either way, they will be laughed out of court, and Rove will be laughing once again.

I would love to see Joe Wilson's testimony. The 9/11 Commission did everything but call him an outright liar. A good attorney will have a ball questioning him and you can bet Libby and Rove will have the best of the best.

I had imagined if the Wilson's were going to do anything like this, it would have happened before now. I'm curious about the timing. I don't see the suit as merely a political move, because there must be some serious financial compensation being sought.

I've never been fully convinced one way or another about Plame's undercover status. This case will rest on the Wilson's ability to prove that she was still under covert status.

I'm assuming that this is a civil trial v. criminal like the Fitzgerald investigation. How does that change the process, if any? Do all 13 just lawyer up and we don't know squat until the trial begins?

Interesting times.

This is a political move, to keep these idiots who believe this conspiracy, going until November.:doh

Thanks Gill for finding and posting that. If anyone wants to cut to the chase, the Wilson's eight specific "Cause of Action" begin on page 17. They are also requested a jury trial which I think would work in their favor.

Deegan, I'm usually the first to suspect that an action is motivated by the November elections, but I'm not so sure in this case. I sincerely doubt that anything substantial, like jury selection, will begin before sometime next year. It took two years for Fitzgerald to make a move.

Re: Ex-CIA operative Valerie Plame sues Vice President Cheney, his former aide, Scoot

Whoever leaked her name, whether it was Rove, Cheney, or some other idiot, deserves to be sued as well as jailed.

I didn't consider this, I think your right. It might explain why they waited awhile.

I also believe that lawyers do not take cases that they feel they cannot win. Something must make them feel like they can.

Don't hold your breath that it will ever get that far, expect to see it tossed out of court. Remember Libby has 5 sworn statements that Wilson told others his wife worked at the CIA and Fitzgerald found no violation of the law covering this. There complaint is full of baseless supposition (like most of the debate here supporting them).

I curious to see how many people stick with them after they have been burned so many times with the lies and deceit from them and the media that so desperately wanted to send Rove to jail to hurt the Republicans.

Geez have you read any of it? It's bazaar. And they haven't a shred of evidence to support the conspiracy claims which are directly rebutted by the evidence we do know.

Thrown out of court? A law suit? I don't think so...This kind of reminds me of the OJ cases...you know he was found "not guilty" in criminal court and then found liable in civil court where the burden of proof is not the same.

In civil court it's a preponderance of the evidence not reasonable doubt.

No way to know how it will end up especially since it's not been tried. I hope it becomes a Court TV Reality Series...won't that be cool?

I wonder how much money this will cost Rove, Novak, Libby et al in legal fees? Poor fellows I feel so badly for them....

Don't be insulting. Of course I read all of it. Did you? It is only "bazaar" if your eyes glaze over reading legal documents. It does take a bit of an effort.

Don't be so touchy, there was no insult. I asked you a question, the Geez was aimed at the filing not you, and yes the allegations are bizaar and totally unsupported by any evidence. How would they even know any of the things they claimed even if they were true.

Yes why not, lawsuits get thrown out of courts everyday.

:rofl you are amazing in how far you will go.

Doubt about what? Wilson is the only liar in all of this and that has been proven. A good defense attorney will eat him alive on the stand. The Senate Intelligence committe report will be brought in and he will be done for. Her employment was no secret, they can use the Libby depositions. There is no crime, they have not been faulted. THEY are the ones who should be sued.

So if you can't win in the relm of political ideas ruin them financially or as aps says have them thrown in jail. My how you both have such honorable priniciples.

Good for the Wilsons. John Dean says it's a strong case. Chris O'Donnell says it's not. Time will tell.

Let's not forget that the burden of proof in a civil case is lower than in a criminal case.

Maybe the intention of the lawsuit is to force legal documents out in the open so the truth can be known for sure.

I believe there is no chance of this suit becoming an issue for the November elections. There will be some headlines for some number of days and then there will be no new information to report until sometime next year, at the earliest.

If you read the attorneys' eight causes, I think they have tightened the charges down that is fair to assume they will win some of them. Maybe that was the cause for the timing? Eh, who knows?

They lay out their evidence in the first 16 pages. Perhaps you should read their filing again. Much of their claims are all old news, and well documented elsewhere.

Stinger, it appears that your position is cast in concrete. I prefer to stay open to the evidence presented at trial and make a decision then. Not that my opinion matters. The jury will decide on this, yes?
