Woo hoo! Republicans on the state board of education who wanted to incorporate intelligent design into the school curriculum lost power in the primary election in Kansas yesterday. This is fantastic news.

TOPEKA, Kan. - Conservative Republicans who approved classroom standards that called evolution into question lost control of the state Board of Education in Tuesday's primary election.

Five of the 10 seats on the board were up for election in the primary, the latest skirmish in a seesawing battle between faith and science that has opened Kansas up to international ridicule.

George Lakoff may have to write a sequel to "What's The Matter With Kansas"

First, wholesale abandoment of the GOP to the Dem party, now this.

Me likey....

This is heartening news.....and bodes well for the Children in Kansas schools.

Me Likey Too

Calling evolution a "good bedtime story" Kansas State Republican nuthead religious zealots have lost thier incumbancy.
The ppl in KS seem to realize just how important real science is.
It was pathetic that these morons turned it into a political issue by trying to combine church and state. Fortunately the voters acknowledge the importance of sceince.

My likey thrice.

Me likey that you 3 likey.

Hmmm. You're kinda funny. Maybe I was too hard on you in the "hi" thread. :3oops:

I love it when right-wing nuts go down in flames. Great news for the Children of Kansas. They can now learn science in the classroom and religion at church. Great news indeed.

This is not the first time this has happen in this country. Last year, Republicans were removed from the Dover, PA School Board also. They were voted out because they mandated Intelligent Design being taught in science classes.

Me likely also.

Oklahoma.

Then again, I have always thought that Kansas state motto should be:

"Kansas, its like a whole other Nebraska"

Or,

"Kansas, remarkably unremarkable."

This is in today's New York Times:

In a state where a fierce fight over how much students should be taught about the criticism of evolution has gone back and forth since 1999, the election results were seen as a significant defeat for the movement of intelligent design, which holds that nature by itself cannot account for life’s complexity. . . .

I think more citizens are learning what intelligent design really is and realizing that they don’t really want that taught in their public schools,” said Eugenie C. Scott, director of the National Center for Science Education.

I just can't stop smiling over this victory! :2dancing:

I just popped down that way for the Red Sox v Royals game last night.

Was a good time even though my "Sox Fan" companion was less than pleased with the bottom of the ninth Royals victory :)

yeah man.... a 200 milliion dollar museum with robotic dinosaurs... its ridiculously crazy how far these people will go. Imagine how much that 200 million dollars could have done in the advancement of science. Instead, we have it spent on this..

At least it's 200 million less that they can donate to their religeous leaders so they can run for office. Not that the religeous right is hurting for cash or anything.

Robotic dinosaurs? Cool. Would luv to see those animatronics.
Perhaps this money seems a waste today, but what kind of a waste would it then be if this exhibit in turn enspires the next Einstien? Priceless.

u'r rite, the robotic dinosaurs would be pretty damn cool.
only problem is they show the robotic dinosaurs with early humans. Other exhibits show recreations of the adam and eve scenario. Its an intelligent design museum.
