Listen, if you’re Nancy Pelosi it makes a lot of sense. Nancy Pelosi is terrified, number one, of her extreme left-wing base; she is captive of that; and number two, the position of Congressional Democrats in this shutdown is objectively unreasonable. In 2013, Chuck Schumer and every Senate Democrat voted in favor of 350 miles of border wall. They have right now shut the government down to stop 234 miles of border wall. I don’t know how you explain that you voted in favor of 350 miles but you shut the government down to stop 234 miles. That is incoherent.

Ted Cruz, Patriotic American, R-TX.

Incoherent... one word which almost perfectly describes the whacko Left.

Democrats voted to fund the government, Trump and McConnell refuse to bring it to a vote unless they get their special favor, so it takes quite the mental gymnastics to pretend it's the Democrats keeping the government closed.

Funding the government =/= funding the wall. The former could be passed today if the Republicans wanted it to be funded. Ball is in your court.

Every Republican in Congress sat on his hands for two years. They licked the icing off the top of government, passing their tax break and seating SCOTUS judges and now they want the Democrats to do the heavy lifting to fulfill their campaign promise. If you reward a spoiled child's tantrum once you know it's gonna happen again. If this works next up will be a shutdown of the government until the Democrats repeal and replace Obamacare. Hell, might work to make them lock up Hillary Clinton too!

Actually they voted for fence not a wall. You know there is a difference, right?

This has already been proven as false.

The Secure Fence Act of 2006 was all about 700 miles of fence, later amended to say not every mile required the same type of fencing. Schumer and Clinton both voted for it, however Pelosi and many in the House voted against it. In that bill, and amendment, at no time was a "great great wall."

As with everything about this argument those at the mic are intentionally trying to mislead. At the time the bill was sold as a means to start the Immigration reform debate, which ultimately did not happen anyway to any degree of measurable success. Even when Bush 43 obtained a favorable Congress (until his last Congress.) Once Congress flipped that ship sailed on Immigration reform, never happened and it probably will not now.

At the time they were already arguing between "a fence" and "border security," muddying the waters on what each means. Then Trump comes along and wants a "great great wall" and changes the debate no matter how much Conservatives eat it up as a new line between "a wall" and "border security."

What that idiot Cruz is talking about is a bill that came up before Trump talking about this 234 miles of border where Trump wanted "a wall"... then it became a barrier... then steel barrier... and the useless continued mainly because we already spend much more on "border security" now than we have. Even with a favorable Congress, the Senate could not get the 60 votes for Trump's wants the way the bill was being sold and now we have this mess.

Now we have everyone on both sides of the isle cherry-picking what stats they want to use to pimp success or failure for this of that. The infamous meeting between Trump, Pelosi, and Schumer ended up being a show piece as a means to play chicken with government staying open.

Voting for 234 miles does not have to be linked to open government. No matter how many times Cruz and Trump say otherwise, Trump put his hand down for all to see saying he wanted to shutdown government over this and he did it. It is never going to be a Schumer / Pelosi shutdown, Republicans wanted this and now they have this.

Republicans own this, Cruz saying this is Democrats fault is foolishness.

Yes.

A fence is far less effective than a wall. It’s why East Germany built a double wall, replacing its double fence.

It’s why Israel has a wall and not a fence. Fences are good for horses. Less so for human invaders.

Democrats voted in favor of 350 miles but you shut the government down to stop 234 miles.

There are videos of all major Democrats supporting it.

Did I miss the government being reopened?

Did Nancy negotiate a deal with Trump after trying to bolt the country for a vacation instead of doing her job?

She didn’t? Or did she fly commercial?

Well Trump won't last past 2020 if that long, and the wall won't happen. Sorry, sucks to be you I know.:lamo

A fence is insufficient. Hell, you folks say a wall does not work. ROTFLOL... They do... fences, not so well.

Their barrier has been upgraded. Improved. Maximized. Optimized...

... but, I understand... Democrats are reluctant to ensure we have true Border security.

Why not build something tremendously effective. Y’know, build it right the first time? LOL...

The purpose of fences and walls aren’t exactly the same. A wall is intended to help keep intruders out. A fence is used to mark a boundary so people don’t unintentionally cross the boundary. If you have to climb over a fence you can’t plead ignorance that it is private property.

I get it. You want a WALL. That’s fine. You think the Democrats are on the wrong side of this issue. That is also fine. But be honest about what they voted for.

Amazingly, everything you said is wrong.

You're just so insensitive to such IMPORTANT reasons why this is a NATIONAL SECURITY CRISIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All that aside, your title says they voted for a wall.

Can you show where they voted for a wall or admit it was a fence?

Actually they voted for fence not a wall. You know there is a difference, right?

And where was it? In a highly populated area, it makes sense. In that area, you can have actual border enforcement. Trump wants to build a wall over 1000+ miles of desolate, barren land, that can't possibly be manned, and can easily be tunneled under, over around.

And then there is the fact dems probably were supporting it because they came to a compromise. In this case, there is no compromise, Trump is a POS, his wall is stupid, and a wall has nothing to do with a budget. Trump can't get his funding through other means, so he's terrorizing the country with his shutdown to try and get his way.

And you are quoting Cruz??!!
Whose dad was in on the Kennedy assassination according to the short fingered vulgarian?

Drugs come through border points, seaports darlin.
Nothing to do with walls.
You think the women and kids drag them through the desert?

Every Senate Democrat voted for 350 miles of wall in 2013... now... for 234 miles...

People do and think all sorts of things at various points in their lives. As material circumstances change, so too, if one is intelligent, should one's cognition about doing that which one before found sage to do.

To wit, as a young and early middle aged adult, I did all sorts of things that, at 60 years old, are anathema to me. Similarly, there are choices I'd make now that, 10 years ago, or in some instances just last year or five years ago, were imprudent.

Does the left know there is a difference? Would they let Trump have 234 miles of "fence"?

How can I possibly have any idea what "the left" knows and doesn't know?

FYI "the left" has absolutely no power to give Trump anything.

If Trump had come up with a sensible barrier plan to begin with and didn't just run with let's build a wall and make Mexico pay for it BS we might be getting somewhere.

For what must be zillionth time, the 2013 bill FAILED.....F....A....I....L....E.....D!!!

And also for the zillionth time it was one of these idiotic bills that deserves to fail. A bill that has an Appropriation or Appropriations for Border Security on one side slammed together with Immigration Policy on the other side. The hope for proponents is that they can get crap legislation to pass because every Pol gets something and they all get to declare victory. The Bill failed because it should have failed and simply yammering on about one end of the Bill, the Border Security end is simply senseless false equivalency.

The four "lets make a deal" bills from 2018 were all crap bills for the same reason. Glad they all failed. Hated every one of them for the same reason I hated the failed 2013 legislation. Its crap legislation.

As for where we are now....open the government and then separately try to deal with a DHS bill. If Donald does not like that....TOO BAD!

:lamo You do know that the Gop'ers BLOCKED that bill from becoming law in 2013, don't you? Of course, you don't. But, now that you've been so informed, why aren't you (and the dissembling right-wing demagogues you trust, like Ted Cruz) asking why YOUR party is talking about a bill that THEY BLOCKED in congress back in 2013?

Huh? Please, tell me again about how "objectively unreasonable" republicans are being right now. Please, try to answer that.

Trump acolytes are as delusional as they are dishonest and ignorant. It's a direct by-product of all the Fake News they imbibe (like "BlazeTV" in the OP). :lamo.

Clearly, listening to rightwing demgogues like Ted Cruz dissemble on Blaze Tv has poisoned your brains. The Fake News crowd is generally intellectually lazy. They don't like to read or research...they prefer to just watch/listen to rightwing pundits, pols and "news" sources that re-affirm their existing biases.

So, since you people are just a bunch of helpless infants who can no longer be expected to engage in substantive, FACT-BASED political dialogue....let's get some of the FACTS straight.

First...The 2013 Gang of Eight compromise included citizenship for the DACAs in exchange for funding for portions of a double-layered border fence. Democrats held the majority in th Senate, while Republicans controlled the House. The Democratic controlled Senate passed the bill with 68 votes (i.e. including about 15 GOP Senators). All 32 votes against were GOP'ers.

Next... the FACT is that the Gang of Eight Bill of 2013 was blocked by REPUBLICANS in the House. Pelosi never voted for it, because the bill was never allowed to recieve a vote by Speaker Boehner, who was "terrified of HIS EXTREME RIGHT WING BASE".

Next...there were 2 reasons why House Gop'ers blocked the Gang of Eight bill in 2013. The first reason was that they have NEVER supported immigration reform. Their primary goal was to prevent the browning of America. The second reason was that they did not want to allow President Obama to "win", in any way.

Lastly....the GOP'ers controlled BOTH houses of congress from 2014-2018. Yet, NOT ONCE in that time did Gopers EVER bother to pass legislation to address any aspect of the "border security" issue (i.e. immigration reform, walls, technology, etc.). And they've had control of the White House for the last 2 years. Yet, for the last 2 years they did NOTHING legislatively to address these issues.....UNTIL they got slaughtered in the 2018 mid-terms. Then they quickly passed bipartisan border security legislation through both houses with the support of Trump, who promised to sign it before the Democrats took over the House in 2019.

But that spineless idiot of a POTUS backed out on the agreement after being threatened by a few notorious talk-radio bigots (i.e. Limbaugh, Colter and Alex Jones). It's Trump who is terrified of his right wing base of bigots. That is clear, and most Americans (even most right wingers) understand that.

Now, the power dynamics in congress have changed. So Trump is left with 2 options: (1) take the deal that was passed by Repubicans who controlled both houses before the new year, or (2) open up the government and work on a new deal with Speaker Pelosi.
