Supreme Court Justice Roberts rebuked Trump yesterday on his debasing statement regarding the 9th Court decision on Asylum seekers.

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/supreme-court/rare-rebuke-chief-justice-roberts-slams-trump-comment-about-obama-n939016

He said:

"We do not have Obama judges or Trump judges, Bush judges or Clinton judges. What we have is an extraordinary group of dedicated judges doing their level best to do equal right to those appearing before them. An independent judiciary is something we should all be thankful for."

Should Trump be careful of not alienating the Supreme Court? After all, Judge Roberts was chosen by Bush and is considered a Conservative Judge. He could become the Centrist on the Court and decide issues and if he feels that Trump is trying to influence the court, he could lean to the other side.

Do you think Trump is going to far in criticizing Court judgments that come out against his wishes?

No. Trump has just as much right to criticize the Court as anyone else has to criticize him.

Perhaps Roberts should follow the advice of the Trump haters who so often slam Trump for being overly sensitive. Better yet, Roberts should probably go back to his actions (or lack of actions) when Obama criticized his Court...and say nothing.

Now...I don't think it'll happen, but if Roberts is butt hurt about what Trump says and lets that butt hurt influence his court rulings, then Roberts will only confirm that he is no better than the activist judges that Trump is complaining about.

If Roberts decides to let politics influence his decisions then all he will be doing is proving Trump right.

We should not change because of Trump. Trump is an anomaly and will be gone soon.

Donald Trump is frustrated because somewhere he believed he was going to be able to do more by decree than actual legislation and governance.

The most correct fact said of Donald is that he is not a politician. People were hoping he would be a fast learner and learn OTJ. That did not happen.

Things are just going to get tougher for Trump going forward. He's lost his majorities and Mueller is about to drop anchor.

Unhinged will be the new normal

First of all, they are not HIS majorities. Secondly, the GOP still controls the Senate. I can generally tell where one's priorities are when they criticize Trump. Most are just Democrats looking for an angle. Those who want to create a Trump-proof beachhead in the GOP are more believable. Senators like Mike Lee and Ben Sasse come to mind, neither of which voted for Trump.

The 24/7 News Networks are in the main responsible for the perception of the politicization of the Courts IMO.

You could always go and find out which Justice or which Judge was appointed during which administration. It was simply never news until the 24/7 News Networks came along and could not find enough actual news to fill 24 hours. Their goal is to be provocative. They have nothing to do with news unless in fact it provides them the means to be provocative. It was not until the onset of the 24/7 News Networks that it became popular to continually point out when a judge was appointed and by which administration.

It is so bad, that I even heard a "respected" anchor on one of their shows this morning use the fact that THEY "have always identified who as President was responsible for a particular appointment" as a lead in to a discussion of why Roberts picked this particular moment to tweet on the subject of judicial appointments. In other words, we now have a generation of 24/7 Network News anchors old enough to know better that do not even acknowledge their role in this mess, utterly oblivious to their role in this mess.

24/7 News Networks are the single worst thing that has happened to our democracy IMO. A Donald Trump does not even get to 1st base without the 24/7 News Networks.

You did not answer the OP question. This is not about the News Networks, it is about whether Trump is going too far and perhaps alienating the Supreme Court against him or not.

Guys like Trump always wear out their welcome, they are too exhausting.

The answer is evident in what I posted. Obviously, my answer would be no.

Our "perception" induced in the main by the insanity of the current state of both Internet and 24/7 Cable News is not reality. It is perception induced by News Outlets need to be provocative to survive. 24/7 Cable News only knows one way to gain ratings, that being provocation and the Internet by virtue of its algorithm basis is inherently provocative.

On a side note, the more unscrupulous the politician, the more he will play into a perception of reality as opposed to reality.

Trump proof beachhead. President Trump is in the whitehouse due to the disgust of democrats and left winged republicans wishing to not be thrown into the fire when hellary took everyone to lunch but herself went to a formal members only exclusive brunch.

Have you ever found any topic you couldn't felate TRump over?

Roberts is right, the law should be the law, not a partisan tool. TRump is out of his depth, it's obvious to most. You guys think he leads some "revolution":2rofll:

So a tax cut (peanuts for middle America and YUGE for the top and corporations), and a bunch of deregulation so hopefully the banks can run wild and need bailed out again.

What pray tell has he done to "drain the swamp"?:lamo

Truth is nothing, if anything he is slimier, came in and took a big dump in it, but should be interesting to hear what kind of stories you clowns have made up for yourselves.:popcorn2:

But look at all the damage he has done. That was by design, he came in on the instructions "Fix it if you can, burn it down if you cant" and by Nov 9 and "NOT MY PRESIDENT!" it was pretty clear that this would be a burn down operation.

What you have taken as the flaw is the feature.

Alitos head shaking, mouthing words and making faces during Obamas speech then Robert's making statements about the speech to students wasn't enough for you?
Or is it selective memory?
At least Obama criticized a specific ruling of the court in a dignified manner he did not hint at doing something about the court. But of course there is no difference in your mind.

CJ Roberts did not (and should not) address the judgement (the actual lower court decision) but did object to Trump asserting that political bias is used as the basis for federal court decisions. Trump has every right to express disappointment with the idea that the executive cannot modify federal immigration law enforcement procedures since it was obviously done (and upheld by the federal courts) by Obama when creating DACA/DAPA (which had no basis in existing immigration law) as "the law of the land". The asylum claim issue is a bit more complex since it involves both DHS and the State Department but both are executive agencies that work together on such matters. It does seem insane that foreign nationals are not treated any differently based on whether they entered (or remain in) the US legally or illegally.

Whoever replaces trump will be every bit like him, if not, worse. And likely, his replacement will be a democrat, after his 8 years are up. The worst of the left will be released onto the political scene, and we may not have a country afterwords.

Trump had better tone it down lest he alienates RBG.

I think Trump goes too far with every breath he takes. ;)

Glad to see Roberts publicly bitch slap him. Of course, it will do not good as the man is beyond help.

Thank God! I agree by the way. Trump was his own best Marketeer as a candidate and his own worst enemy as a President.

Roberts needs to remember that the Courts reputation is not good, and neither is his personal reputation...he has little room to dish out lectures.

America as a whole has lost confidence in the SCOTUS and our criminal justice system long before Trump came along. Only 37% of all Americans have a great deal or a lot of confidence in the SCOTUS. The SCOTUS hasn't been at 50% since 1998. Since 1973 the SCOTUS has a high of 56% back in 1985. As for the criminal justice system, confidence in that stands at 22%. Since 1993 our criminal justice system high confidence was 34% back in 2004.

There a lot of institution listed and their confidence history, all pretty low prior to Trump. Take a gander at all of them and their confidence or trust history. We Americans do seem to have quite a confidence problem with our institutions. Almost all of them. That lack of confidence and trust happened long before Trump.

https://news.gallup.com/poll/1597/confidence-institutions.aspx

Should Trump have criticized judges, I don't think it makes a bit of difference. Judges have become politicized. As has TV news, almost every other institution one can think of. All of this long before Trump. Perhaps Trump is nothing more that a symptom of the total lack of trust we Americans now have in our institutions.

Roberts’ concern is that the GOP’s judicial project isn’t supposed to be discussed out loud. Yes, filling th bench with political hacks is the one endeavor that unifies the right (which is listless when it comes to actual policy these days), but Trump is saying the quiet part loud.

You did not answer the OP question. This is not about the News Networks, it is about whether Trump is going too far and perhaps alienating the Supreme Court against him or not.

That (bolded above) premise implies that Trump's assertion was, in fact, correct - (some of ?) the federal judges do base their federal court decisions (interpretations of the constitution?) on the political statements/leanings of the POTUS (or other parties) involved in the case.

The matter before the federal court is whether or not the executive can add, change or delete portions of federal immigration law as passed by congress and signed into current law - not what those particular modifications happen to be. If Obama could create a special class of foreign nationals (dreamers?) that are to be treated differently under existing federal immigration law, with no congressional action at all, then why can't Trump do that as well?

Alito kept quiet. He didn't make a public statement as Roberts did.

I would estimate that compared to Trump, Roberts comes off as an intelligent and respectful choir boy with good manners.
