Since most evangelicals spend much of their time telling everyone else how immoral they are, I thought it would be appropriate to post a news item about a poll just conducted, which showed that 50% of evangelical men and 20% of evangelical women are addicted to pornography.

As the Bible says, "ye shall know them by their fruits". Any reasonable person can see these people for the hypocrites they really are. Godly? Hardly, but they will tell you how to live your life. I think that, if they really want to get into heaven, they need to get right with God themselves. They will disagree, of course, telling us that Jesus is giving them an automatic pass on porn, just like on everything else they support, such as the murder of many thousands of women and children overseas.

Reason number 6799 why prohibition DOESNT WORK.

Oh, this is priceless! Thanks for posting this. Struggling with lust and porn--those poor evangelicals.

Have you ever struggled with pornography translates into being addicted to porn??? That's a stretch!

I swear, American needs to get laid, big time. Far too many ppl have a stick way too far up thier ***.

I think they need to see a priest about this obsession. Hmm.... On the other hand, that might not be such a good idea.

I am highly doubtful of the source, and doubt the authenticity of their claim.

(and I am just a regular ol' heathen)

Who isn't addicted to porn?

It's so nice to know that there is an authority out there who knows us so well. I'm so glad that you know 'Americans' well enough to speak in such broad generalizations. Next time I need to know what I think or feel about something....or better yet what I 'need', I'll know who to come to.

Being American allows you such authority to speak of yourself and your countrymen. Glad you find it helpful.

Is tossing off some baby batter every once in awhile a bad thing?

I am an Evangelical Christian.

This news doesn't surprise me at all. It is extremely disappointing though.

I will say that the pretense behind this thread is also disappointing (if I understand it correctly). It expresses a basic misunderstanding of Christianity.

Christianity is about God loving people, saving people from His judgement, and giving them new hearts that are willing to conform to His will.

I was raised in a Christian home but I have not become completely sinless, and to be honest with you, I won't be sinless in this lifetime. God has been pursuing me, changing my heart. According to my friends, family, and associates, my behavior has changed a lot over the years but I am still not completely obedient to God. I was born selfish and surrounded by selfish people. I do not love God or "my neighbor" as I should. There is a lot of temptation in the World. However, God has given me a redeemed heart that is basically oriented to obey Him and trust Him. My sin is evidence of my hypocrisy- (and that is evil), but I am a Christian. I have given my life to Jesus. His Spirit is with me now, and I will be with Him when I die.

I am indeed a sinner and hypocrite. That is why I depend on Jesus.

That said, I wish 0% of my brothers and sisters were porn addicts.

You sound sincere enough, but the kind of evangelical I am talking about doesnt apply to you (although I dont know you, let me at least take a guess).

The Bible says that, before the Antichrist rules the world for his short time, there must be a falling away, so that the Son of Perdition may be revealed. I believe that is what we are witnessing today - An apostate church, so concerned with power, but so little concerned with anything that Christ taught, and so concerned with the almighty dollar that many would have you believe that wealth is the equivalent of godliness. Just look at most of the televangelists today - "Health and wealth through Jesus Christ" says one of them. "Seed faith through money" says another. "Name it and claim it" says a third, who would have us believe that Jesus Christ is some kind of cosmic gofor.

I am waiting for the end of days eagerly, because I know, just as the Bible teaches, that whoever confirms the covenant with Israel IS the Antichrist, and will break that covenant 3 and a half years later, in what we will know as the Tribulation. If we thought the Holocaust of WWII was bad, we havent seen anything yet, because this time, alongside of the Jews, will be real Christians, not fake ones, and many will die, both Jew and Christian, as the Antichrist reigns for his short time. However, as the Bible says, he knows his time is short, so will do everything he can to bring as many down with him as possible. A good way of doing this is to convince well-meaning Christians that money is Godliness. Its one heck of a test. Do we all really love God enough to give up money and wealth, not to mention possibly our lives? With true faith, the answer is yes. Peter learned that the hard way. Time here on this earth is such a short period, compared to eternity on the new earth.

I think the answer we seek in today's times is to come out of the beast, and not partake in her sins. Do no harm to others, and do not regard yourself as a citizen of the beast. The beast, of course, is a revived remnant of the Roman Empire system, known as the United States of America.

That's a lot of info.
Would you please concisely sum up how this relates to "Evangelicals Are Addicted To Porn?"

Just a sympton of the real problem, which is apostacy in the church. This should come as no surprise, since Jesus said that before he returned, there would be a great falling away from the faith. Later, Peter put that more succinctly, when he said that, in the last days, there would be the preaching of doctrines of devils.

Try this link. Its a site from S. R. Shearer. He used to do black ops for the government until he saw what was happening, whereupon he put his past behind him, and made it his sole mission to preach about what is happening today. Read The Antipas Papers at that site. It is a heck of a lot of reading. You might not like what you see, but I believe in my heart that he is right, because what is in these articles is directly related to what the Bible predicts will happen in the End Times. There is no doubt. Christ is going to return, and when he does, some of us will receive a great gift, while others will receive everlasting shame.

Finally, I am sure you are aware as I am that those preaching to us can be judged according to the fruits they bear. Read with an open mind, and ask yourself if our political leaders are really helping us to come to God, or if they serve the Devil instead.

The end times have been here for a long time.

In fact, there has been preaching of false doctrines for thousands of years- well before the birth of Christ and ever since then.

Just name a time period.

I'll bet that some of God's people have been porn addicts for thousands of years as well. Take David and Solomon for example... How many wives and concubines did they have? Didn't David have a man killed so that he could add the man's wife to his collection? Hmm... David and Solomon wrote books that are in your Bible. Jesus is called "son of David."

Those things are indeed evil- but they are thing's done by God's people "the Church." That is why we depend on Jesus for salvation, not on our "good works."

Read Romans

"20% of the church-going female participants struggle with looking at pornography on an ongoing basis."

Are they having trouble finding enough of it or are they having trouble carrying all those magazines?

I agree with you on much of what you said, but the time of the end, as prophesied in the Bible, is very specific. There will be a beast system. The beast will not only be the greatest military power that ever was, but also the greatest merchantile nation in history. The harlot riding the dragon, as depicted in Revelations, is the apostate church.

As for David and Solomon, what they did, of course, was wrong, and God did judge them for what they did. One need only look at what happened in their lives? Were they forgiven? Of course they were. There is something in the Old Testament which has always fascinated me. When God laid down the law for Moses to bring to the people, he specified death for many, many offenses, but at the same time, he did something very interesting. He ordered the books of the law to be placed underneath the judgement seat. I believe that is where the term "above the law" comes from. I believ there was grace before Christ, but only Jews received it, because the rest of the world did not know God. Christ's purpose, in addition to being the perfect sacrifice for our sins, I believe, was to bring God's love and grace to the rest of the world.
