Storage is the problem of the battery swapper. They're stored there, recharged, and swapped out again. That's a lot of batteries to store in many, many places. Not sure how cost effective it will be.
I don't have a plug-in electric vehicle, but I purchased a hybrid in 2022. It recharges itself while the car is driving. I get up to 46 mph depending on the driving conditions. I love it.I wouldn't buy into anything China is saying, and I'm still not convinced of EVs until we do something huge with battery tech.
New solid state battery technology will make this whole concept obsolete. No more waiting 30 minutes at a charging station. There are swap-stations where the entire battery is removed and replaced with a fully charged battery in about five minute.
I saw Mexico is also producing their own.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nio_Inc

I'm a car enthusiast, I've been interested in cars of all makes since I drove a car for the first time at the age of 14. This one is definitely intriguing. China's technology is making headway, knocking the West down a few notches.

That's how I saw this working out, battery swapping. When my screw-gun dies I don't have to wait for the battery to charge, I just swap it out.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nio_Inc

When Elon Musk came out with the Tesla, China saw this as the future of the auto industry. They invited Musk to build a plant in China, and part of their conditions was that he had to open everything up to them. To Elon Musk, it sounded like a great deal. He was going to get access to a huge market for his car. It was a big deal for him. It worked out great for Musk in the short term. He got Chinese government subsidies from the Communist Chinese Party, he partnered up with them, he built a major plant in China, but China got a better deal because they were able to come in and everything that he was doing with his cars, they took the technology. They built upon his models, and they improved it, they made it cheaper and more efficient. China continued to innovate, and now their Chinese cars are way outselling Musk's Teslas, he's having a very hard time selling his Tesla in China these days.I don't care. I just want to see Tesla and Musk GO DOWN HARD. I don't drive enough to matter- less than 7000 miles in 5 years, and I will never invest in a Chinese car.
There is something fishy here. The weight of the average EV battery is 1000 pounds. What do these "swapable" batteries weigh and what range do they have?https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nio_Inc

Seriously? The Tesla truck is a horrible failure. You can pull the sides right off the truck, they're just glued into place.
Yeah. There's a video out where a guy just slams the door hard and the inside door panel fell off.Seriously?
China may have an improved battery than the Tesla. The Chinese are very innovative. Every battery is stored at the battery exchange, it gets fully charged and then installed on the next car. It's the responsibility of the battery change station to supply a good battery. Those electric car batteries in China, like those in other markets, are expected to last for at least 10 years or 100,000 miles. There is something fishy here. The weight of the average EV battery is 1000 pounds. What do these "swapable" batteries weigh and what range do they have?
An MO they have attempted with just about every sophisticated Western technology/IP: offer them a Faustian bargain to either outright surrender their tech/IP/trade secrets/research, or partner with a local company (which would then be an in to take the technology, lawfully or otherwise through corporate/industrial subterfuge) in exchange for access to Chinese markets, subsidies, facilities, cheaper production or some combination thereof, then use the bottomless pockets of the CCP and its state subsidies to build up a homegrown alternative that will ultimately wipe them out. When Elon Musk came out with the Tesla, China saw this as the future of the auto industry. That was always China's plan. Let him come into China, subsidize him, let him promote the technology, then take all his technology, and push him out. The Tesla truck is a horrible failure. You can pull the sides right off the truck, they're just glued into place. China is plowing ahead of everyone as far as EVs are concerned.

People here in the US don't realize how far ahead of the US, China is technologically. And it's not just cars, it's in everything. That's why the US needs to remain a trading partner with China. Their skills and 'know how' is essential to us to be competitive.
Of course Elon would be so stupid to fall for such myopia when others far smarter than him already have.
But, whoa......Honda, Toyota, and others hope to use solid-state cells in vehicles to go on sale before 2030.New solid state battery technology will make this whole concept obsolete.
70% range increase, 10 minute charging.
I wouldn't go nearly that far, in some fields they're arguably ahead (and mostly due to the sort of technological theft described) but not for most. If anything we should accelerate friendshoring and reshoring of technologically advanced and strategically important industries as quickly as is reasonable to minimize any further erosion of American competitiveness due to the schemes previously described that have arisen precisely because we do business with China at great long term cost to our country.People here in the US don't realize how far ahead of the US, China is technologically. Here's the irony of all this. Musk is supposed to be trumpdump's side kick. Musk owns Tesla, a car almost NONE of trumpdumps poor magats can afford. Even the rich folks who own Teslas are ashamed to own them. Many decent folks bought these cars thinking they were benefiting the environment only to have trumpdump trash everything that benefits the environment..even the so-called republicans are ashamed to drive these cars..maybe for fear of retribution? Hey, sorry, when my car threatens my life, it's GONE.
There may be a faint light at the end of this horror tunnel.......
How great. Dumbass dems going to support Chinese made cars because they hate Trump and hate Musk because Musk made a decision based on his opinions on morals, principles, politics, business. A free country , except where democrats are concerned. If you don't think like they think you are a fascist. So go ahead and screw the U.S. and help China. That's good little democrats.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nio_Inc
