President Donald Trump is presiding over the deterioration of the US's position on the world stage as European countries increasingly look toward China as a future global leader.

This shift is apparent in a series of recent opinion polls that found European sentiment toward the US to be in decline since the start of the coronavirus pandemic.

Well, As many figured, there is no MAGA. Never was going to be.
We will be 2nd fiddle in the world.

I understand why Europe would do this, but it’s a mistake to turn away from the US before the election. China is not going to be a good global leader, and I don’t think I need to explain why. Europe would be wise to cool their heels for just another few months. If Trump is re-elected, then sure, you’re going to see the world completely redraw all of their treaties around the United States.

Isolated, white and proud: that's all MAGA was anyway. That's all they'll get.

But it's not all doom and gloom. China can't really play the moral conscience of the world the way America used to. Europe could fill that role - and maybe it should never have all hinged on one country with a questionable rights record itself. Economically, Americans may see it as a pivot toward China because it is so often painted in terms of dichotomy - a sort of 'us or them' choice - but what it really means may be diversifying and decentralizing.

Awesome, particularly love those European results

Results are what is being celebrated, pre pandemic and now post pandemic recovery, not politics of personal destruction and focus on personality. Are you ever going to discuss issues and policies or continue to focus on personality? Can you explain to me how 6% African American unemployment pre pandemic indicates a racist President since that is a full 2% lower than Obama left him with?

The world watches America in the same way

American watches Tiger King.

Well since your so focused on job numbers explain to us why 6% unemployment (pre-covid I'm sure: since then many people of color have lost their jobs as well) automatically means a president who goes around saying racist s*** isn't a racist. Trump didn't hand them those jobs out of his own pocket and nor did he magically create them just by being there.

I was responding to the OP, where the merits of the general MAGA ideal were being discussed, job numbers are your schtick, not mine.

Actually it's a smart move. Hopefully if the American people see America's standing in the world decimated in the first four years, they won't give him another four years.

I'm sure "the rest of us" are hoping for a return to sanity for America in November. The world is forgiving, especially of rich nations like America. Trump has simply pushed things too far.

Glad you excited to see Europe and UK looking to do business elsewhere.
MAGA hey? Losing trading partners trust.

Republican led NAFTA hurt Middle America 30 yrs ago. We've recovered. Now Republican led policies will hurt Middle America again.
And your response is awesome.

Amusing that you accuse others of being "smug" while your own attitude exudes arrogance. Your position is nowhere near as secure as you believe it is.

OK.
Can you post why at least?
Or credentials that give credence to your opinion?

China has been moving up the charts for 30 yrs. We are backing out of trade deals, China is creating new trade deals.

I bet that is what they are going to do.
But that doesn't mean they are preparing for another 4 yrs of tRUMP which will likely means we get reduced on the world stage.

But that is his goal. America 1st.
We can lead, follow, or sit out the global economy.

We have been the leader, but that is changing.

Two things come to mind. The first is that regardless of what happens in November, Trump and the people who voted for him along with the Senate Majority have shown the world that there is a large section of America that are willing to look the other way or destroy international standards and treaties in a complete reversal of decades of international cooperation. This tells the world that we are not the stable partner we have always been and it scares the daylights out of them. Second, if we re-elect Trump then this first point will be driven home as the new normal. So either way, Europe must turn to China as insurance against an unreliable America.

The numbers I gave you were pre CV which is 2% lower than what Obama left him with. You focus on race, I focus on results. Job numbers impact personal finances and dependence on gov't programs, the lower unemployment numbers during the Trump term have been historic low but you ignore that to bring race into the forum. Your entire liberal ideology is to keep the African Americans dependent and the job creation for African Americans under Trump scares the hell out of liberals as they will be losing a base they have counted on for years

Most of the founding ideals of the United States came from Europe in the first place: The ideals of the European enlightenment were the foundation of the United States Constitution, as well as ideas of human rights. Now that the United States is abandoning them and going back to the medieval ideas of the dark ages, Europe is going to have to go back to go it alone in safeguarding these ideas.

I see liberal arrogance on full display as Europe will be dependent on China and I am sure that makes you happy since you believe it is more important to be liked that actually generating positive results. Europe needs us a hell of a lot more than we need Europe

Republicans didn't sign NAFTA Clinton did!!

How can that be true when the last 'liberal' presidency also saw a reduction in unemployment among African Americans? Black unemployment has been going down for many years, so Trump can't take the credit. Besides the prevalence of insecure, low wage occupations or gig economy jobs that disappeared with Covid-19 showed how tenuous that paper tiger was.

The 'great again' in MAGA is a callback to the good ole days of white pride as much as it was about restoring economic supremacy. The former was always going to be easier than the latter. It takes many mechanisms to create jobs, many of which no president can claim credit for; it is a comparatively simple matter to start openly hating on others again.

You know the truth, why the slimy deceit? NAFTA was Bush Sr's baby because he wanted to bring Mexico on board Reagan's Canada-USA Free Trade Agreement but there wasn't quite enough time to get the hoofprints on the paper before the crew change so Clinton signed it. That was back before a new administration didn't automatically tear up all the previous administrations work and flush it down the crapper. Remember those days?
And NAFTA wasn't bad for America. Trump lied to you, again.

How sad. The Conservative is so bitter with life he's literally overjoyed to see others dying because someone somewhere hurt his feefees. Clearly one of Trump's "very fine people".

The last liberal President left Trump with an African American unemployment of 8% that dropped to 6%, you tout the dropping of the rate and ignore the actual numbers. Liberals rely on racism, scare tactics, and dependence for their power, Conservatives rely on human nature that promotes individual wealth creation and the keeping of individual freedoms

Awww, isn't that cute. The Conservative is overjoyed to see others dying. Clearly one of Trump's "very fine people".

Overjoyed? That is ludicrous, I am pointing out the fallacy of liberalism including your own country's! Clearly your desire was always to create that European socialist utopia in your country and ours, I am pointing out the results in utopia vs. ours

Russia is getting great results from very little effort. The USA is almost irredeemably divided on partisan lines and all it took was finagling in social media. Trump was a big bonus for the Ruskie trolls, of course, but It's almost a coin toss who created who, Trump or toxic partisanship.
4 more years of this and kiss the US hegemony goodbye, never to be seen again. Nice while it lasted...

Given the fact that China just created one of the worst global shut downs ever i seriously doubt that anyone will be looking for them to do business.
