In Europe, Dyed Foods Get Warning Label ~ Newsroom ~ News from CSPI ~ Center for Science in the Public Interest

I don't have much to say on the matter, other than that Europe just seems to care more about its citizens and their food safety. They aren't scared off by big business pressure and they will regulate additives as needed. Self-regulating industry is an oxymoron. If you let an industry monitor itself, no real monitoring gets done most of the time, and nothing gets done for the public good if it is not first and foremost in the interest of profit. Government shouldn't be scared to put their foot down, especially on something that is black and white.

More importantly, this isn't even a ban, just a label. People have the right to know what harmful things are in their food. Why can't we follow their example?

While I do applaud the move, I'd like to see as much of the artificial part of our diet go away as reasonably possible, I'm curious as to their research to justify the label. I'm all for labeling food, but I want to be sure its being done because there is a genuine health risk and not a few whackjob parents.

As someone who cannot eat dairy, food labeling is immeasurably helpful in the grocery store.

I'm fairly certain that there is a positive correlation between artificial food dye and cancer, as well as some gastric diseases. It's not something I've read up on recently because I simply avoid foods with artificial ingredients.
