EU parliament demands end to 'golden passports' for Russians​

Yes, golden passport schemes like the ones Cyprus and Malta have been doing has to end. You can't buy EU citizenship. This is of course sensible, since questions of citizenship are up to the member states, and in theory Cyprus and Malta could just make whomever they want citizen. And it's not only Russian oligarchs who has been able to get Cypriot or Maltese passports, it's shady Saudi businessmen and Chinese investors too, as well as others. That they now are citizens of a EU member state is unfortunately irreversible, but this practice need to be banned, and it needs to be banned now.

Bulgaria abolishes 'golden passport' scheme for wealthy foreigners

Bulgaria does the right thing and abolishes this program. How many Oligarchs or other criminals have become Bulgarian citizens (and thus EU citizens) through this? It's mainly rich Russians, Chinese and Middle Easterners who have used this program.
