The EU states that Alexander Lukashenko is not Belarus' legitimate leader. Nevertheless, the Union cannot agree on sanctions against his regime. Shameful, the Swedish minister of Foreign Affairs says. But; wait a minute:
The country blocking the decision was Cyprus. Cyprus demanded that the EU impose sanctions on Turkey at the same time. In recent years, large gas reserves have been discovered in the sea outside Cyprus. Last year, Turkey increased its drilling in the sea west of Cyprus. in mid-August this year Turkey sent the exploration vessel Oruc Reis, backed up by warships, to the disputed waters.
Isn’t it shameful that while EU wants to support the opposition in Belarus they don’t want to give their support to one of their own member countries?
