Equatorial Guinea's GDP per capita is $34,739 - higher than South Korea's. Yet the average person lives only 50.10 years, and 77% of the population lives below $2 a day. The president, his sons, and his inner circle dominate the economic landscape with absolute power. Graft and nepotism are rampant. In 2014, the playboy son of Equatorial Guinea's dictator was forced to surrender more than $30 million worth of his assets including a mansion in California, a Ferrari and Michael Jackson memorabilia after allegedly stealing money from his own country.
