Congress must ensure that obscenity laws are enforced so that children are not exposed to pornography on the Internet, researchers and advocates of Internet safety said Tuesday.

Speaking at a briefing at the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center, researchers said because obscenity laws have not been upheld or enforced, illegal adult pornography has flooded and polluted the Internet.

"Today we are calling on Congress and the Department of Justice to ensure that the enforcement of our current obscenity laws is a priority," said Donna Rice Hughes, president of Enough Is Enough, a Virginia-based nonprofit that works to make the Internet safer for children and families. "Our children's innocence is worth fighting for."

You stupid people. You stupid stupid people.

Try PARENTING. Not Gov't regulation. You want the Internet "Safer for Children and Families" then be a part of your children's lives. Have the Net accessible only where you can observe the situation. I hate people like these folks. I really really do.

What have to raise my kid and be a parent. Interact with them, teach them. You ask to much, not.:)
I agree. People need to try parenting and quit look for more laws. If you don't want your kid looking at porn on the internet, try restricting the use and monitor what sites they visit.

I don't get why parents think that the entire world has to be safe for children. We don't ask for the government to ban all cars because they might hit kids. Instead, we supervise kids until they get old enough to teach them how to avoid the danger. Why is the internet any different? You can't legislate what your kid is exposed to walking down the block, how can you expect to legislate something that covers the entire world like the internet. You'd think parents would be happy when the worst danger is finding some porn compared to the potential threats of real life.

So long as you can access a website by typing www.XYZ .com into a browser, kids will be accessing porn. **** happens, deal with it. Also, this really bothered me:

They're worried about kids getting their hands on illegal adult pornography, i.e. "extreme" porn? Yea, because I'm sure kids will be totally fine so long as they stick to good old-fashioned DVDA, but as soon as you add in some nipple clamps and an amputee, things will just get way out of hand.

ugh.

Can I get a amen.... :bravo:
I dislike people more as each day goes on.

To Enough Is Enough,
If you care about your oh so precious angels, lock them up until 30 so they aren't exposed to anything.
Don't make the rest of us have to live with your pathetic excuse of parenting.
Also go fall in a hole.

Hopefully 4chan'ers will send them thousands of faxes and emails of goatse and other nasties.

Besides the obvious CP, what kind of porn is actually illegal in the U.S.? Amputee porn might be a little esoteric, but I'm sure the ACLU would have filed a lawsuit for discriminating against the handicapped if it were actually illegal. Or are we still using the "I'll know it when I see it" definition.

Bestiality maybe?

That's exactly what it is. We're still using an entirely subjective standard.

Pornographer sentenced to nearly 4 years in prison - St. Petersburg Times

Its never a good sign when your legal precedents make a good punchline for jokes. Reminds me of the heartwarming case where a man was almost convicted of possessing child pornography until the actress flew all the way from Puerto Rico to prove she was over 18 and revealed that nobody had actually bothered to figure out her real age.

Me personally I outgrew porn but there is a difference been adult porn and child porn and it seems like this group is trying to link to the two together by bringing in the kid factor.

For public run computers ie school and library you bet keep it off but at home that job is in the parent's hands not big brother.

They are probably the same people who want to ban salt, transfat, happy meal toys and other things.

I have no idea what they intend to accomplish, or what "illegal adult porn" is. However, I see their point. If everyone would just parent appropriately, we wouldn't need government regulations.

Seriously, this is so much bull. Obscenity laws are bull anyway, and now they want to restrict the net? Seriously parents need to take responsibility for their kids. Also people need to realize it isn't the end of the world if a kid happens to find boobs on the internet. I really never understood why the human body is so taboo.

I guess I'm the only person who agrees that some of this material isn't fit for adults, much less for the children who will inevitably discover it. Other posters are correct in that good parenting is the best means to protect your children from pornography, but that doesn't change that some porn shouldn't exist in the first place.

Furies....

Furies shouldn't exist.

2 girls 1 cup shouldn't exist.

1 man 1 horse shouldn't exist.

I mean that from a purely emotional, please god don't make me want to hate humanity and desire to stap people in the eyes with sporks, type of way. Like, the humane rational thinking part of me looks or hears of that and goes "....why? Just...why?".

I don't think it should be ILLEGAL, I don't think we should arrest them, but that doesn't mean I also don't secretly want those that create it drawn out back and flogged with a rubber hose for their own personal ability to degrade the entire worth of humanity and our faith within it by their horrendous and grotesque things.

I'd agree with you Rat if we were talking about what's socially acceptable instead of what's legal. I don't think that stuff should be legal. However I do think I'd have to go the old seppuku route if Furries or amutated midgets licking crap out of an ice cream cone became even par for the course with a chick eposing her breasts or rubbing a finger over her slit. Thankfully I can never, ever, ever see that happening...

....furries.

Wanders off to buy some disks and download all those twisted favorites which will soon be nixed.
Indeed - the net is flooded with porn if you know where to look. And I guess I know where to look. Youtube started a tidal wave which I find quite fun

 surely I'm not the only one

But, being a good mommy, I have a net security program which blocks access to all such things and keeps tabs of where my kids go, every key they type. what are they up to? Nothing, some lego-games and wonderland. They really don't do much on the computer here at the house - they're all too young to need it for school purposes. I'm more concerned about what they do at school on the computer. The signed release "I will not do inappropriate thing on the internet at school" form doesn't really win me over.

I agree, the people who usually back this sort of anti-smut "save the family" thing are very, very stupid.

See the demotivational poster above.

It's people that dress up in costumes and dry hump each other.

I blame Walt Disney.

2 girls 1 cup is disgusting

Furries simply make me contemplate if we as a species should be exterminated.

This is what I found on furries:

Furry fandom (also known as furrydom, fur fandom or furdom) refers to the fandom for fictional anthropomorphic animal characters with human personalities and characteristics. ..

People sexually get off on this stuff?
