EPA route to ban abortion drug proposed

The American people deserve to know what contaminants might be present in their drinking water and their potential impacts on public health. We ask for your response to the following questions no later than August 17, 2025. Please provide a separate response to each question, rather than a narrative response.

• Does the EPA believe mifepristone should be considered for regulation under the Safe Drinking Water Act based on potential health and environmental risks? If not, why?
• Has the EPA considered adding mifepristone to UCMR 6? If the agency has not, why?
  • How does the EPA select which pharmaceuticals are studied under UCMR?
• Has the EPA considered adding mifepristone to CCL 6?
• Has the EPA conducted or reviewed any research on the presence of mifepristone or its metabolites in drinking water supplies? If not, what gaps currently exist that might prevent this kind of assessment?
• A recent study of insurance claims revealed that over 10% of women experience sepsis, infection, hemorrhaging, or another serious adverse event within 45 days of an abortion using mifepristone—at least 22 times higher than is reported on the drug label. Is the EPA aware of this study? If so, would this data have an impact on the agency’s consideration of adding mifepristone to CCL 6 or UCMR 6?
• Are there existing EPA-approved methods for detecting mifepristone and its active metabolites in water supplies? If not, what resources are needed to develop these testing methods?
• Has the EPA assessed whether exposure to mifepristone and its active metabolites could contribute to hormonal imbalances or infertility in both men and women? Why or why not? If so, has the EPA collaborated with other agencies to make these assessments?
• How are aquatic species affected by exposure to mifepristone and its active metabolites?

Stupid indeed. But not unexpected from politicians or those who know nothing about medicine or pharmaceuticals. They're so tunnel visioned on abortion, they can see nothing else.

Uep, and no surprise either the politicians pushing for this have "R" after their name.

I’m surprised we still HAVE an EPA at this juncture, but not surprised that whatever is left functioning might be used as a weapon against women’s rights.

I wont be surprised to see it defunded and moth-balled.

If the EPA was doing their job, they might reply - "Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We will look into it after we have finished reporting on the huge danger to our water supplies from lead based ammunition."

Instead of looking for chemicals in medications, they should look for whatever's in the water down south that makes them stupid enough to vote MAGA.

What? This is unbelievable!! Republicans concerned about polluting the environment!!! Oh, wait. It's just this one so-called pollutant. Who cares if our rivers catch on fire from pollution caused by money-contributing corporations? Not Republicans, that's for sure. I guess the OP WAS unbelievable when it implied that the Republicans were actually concerned about pollution.

When you banned abortions and closed the clinics what did you expect would happen Mr. Lankford? Did you really think that women are so stupid that they don't know alternate ways to end a pregnancy they know they and their families cannot care for and support? Did you really think women are so in awe of your male intellect that they would turn over to you their right to decide when to have children and let you make all their reproductive decisions? When you ban abortion and close clinics women turn to mail order abortion pills, they go to illegal abortion providers, they go out of state, they use herbal medications, they seek out midwives, they get help from friends, the internet, old accounts of effective abortifacients and they abort their pregnancies even though you have told them they can't do that because you said so.

Here's an interesting fact, Mr. Lankford: You don't control what happens to a pregnancy. Women control their pregnancies and there is nothing you can do, short of jailing pregnant women, to take that control away from them.
