For the first time in US history, the wetlands have actually increased, and the Bush Administration has issued a report proving that. Everyone needs to sing praises to the Bush administration for caring about the environment.

Disclaimer - For the first time in US history, golf course water hazards, swimming pools, ornamental ponds and fountains inside cities, and wastewater treatment facility ponds have been counted as wetlands. In fact, if you dig a hole in your back yard and fill it up with water, you will get a letter from the Bush administration thanking you for helping to increase wetland areas.

Praise George Orwell.

Swimming pools and golf courses?
The Bush administration has by far been the most un-environmental adminsitration since the establishment of importance of environmental care during the Nixxon era.
Fills his white house up with oil lobbying goons and discredits any science that is contrary to thier pro-oil agendas.
I'll gladly fish money if it means I can live in a cleaner environment.
Indeed praise Eric Arthur Blair

Screw the wetlands! Don't wet your pants over the wetlands! :2razz:

I noted the Ban under this members name.....and admit it made me smile this morning. Hopefully this makes DP a bit more pleasant for a couple days....heh. As for the topic, it does seem the deefinitions are bieng bastardized somewhat in many areas, in an attempt to make the policies of this administration more palatable to the public. It's actually quite insulting to be thought of as so naive.

Editorials should not be quoted as actual news.

I agree, editorials should not be used. However the fact remains that the Bush administration is useing golf course water hazards, swimming pools, ornamental ponds, fountains inside cities, and wastewater treatment facility ponds to count as wetlands as well. How does this in anyway add to the protection of the environment?

I have to agree with most of what you say. I am a proud member of Ducks Unlimited and spend a lot of money each year on wetlands preservation. Although golf course water hazards (ponds) and wastewater treatment ponds DO become homes to many forms of wildlife, including waterfowl, including them creates the impression that wetlands preservation is improving, which it is not. Real wetlands are at a premium and duck hunters like me spend millions of dollars every year to create new wetlands and improve existing ones.

By the way, I have seen nothing that includes swimming pools and fountains in this new designation.

:shock:Agreement! This calls for a celebration.
