Enough of the fossil fuels!

Fossil fuels are keeping billions of people alive. Without them, absolutely EVERYTHING comes to a halt. And then we all die of starvation.

Kinda-sorta stoopid remark. Because there is no real alternative - and that's for a great long time that cars/trucks are the main means of transportation. Which DOES NOT MEAN "KEEPING PEOPLE ALIVE" WHICH IS AN ELEMENTARY FACT-OF-LIFE ON EARTH.

Horses once upon a time used to "keep us alive"!

Most importantly, that is all changing, and quickly. Which is why small-mindedness like yours is rampant. Nobody - especially in Canuk Land - likes to make such a monumental change in the way they live.

Too bad. But change is also a key component of life-on-earth. Always has been and always will be. Many of us - we-the-sheeple - do not understand how central to our lives Real Change can be.

Your remark was exactly an example! Too bad. Moving right along ... !

Fossil fuels are keeping billions of people alive. Without them, absolutely EVERYTHING comes to a halt. And then we all die of starvation.

Blah-blah-blah. It's the percentage of population that counts!

See from Boston Globe here:
Burning fossil fuels kills an estimated 350,000 Americans a year, including 7,600 in Massachusetts, study finds. (February 9, 2021)

Maybe it's different in Canada - one source I've seen is that Canadian fossil-fuel deaths are around 8000 per year.

Which means this as regards Comparative Death Rates per population due to fossil-fuels:
US: 0.105%
Canada: 0.21%

Fosil fuels will eventually stop being used no matter what happens as cheaper alternatives will be used.
The UK is in the middle of an offshore windfarm building boom that will see then worlds largest farms opening up in the next 5 years or so.
That and a couple of new nuclear power stations should mean the use of fossil fuels for power tumbles in the UK which is a good thing.

The UK is fortunate to have extremely windy but shallow seas all around us which is perfect for wind generation and we also have some of the strongest tidal surges on the planet so that's a bonus as well.

Sometimes having depressing weather is a good thing.an live
Nothing clean about nuke power now or in the future. People like Charles Koch could have started the rumor stating otherwise however Koch industries owns uranium mining and processing operations which opens up
much toxic activity that can live for thousands of years. NIMBY thank you.

My next vehicles will be hybrids. Hybrids offer clean running at lower speeds which can address the largest polluting source aka in town driving. I will prefer the combo while traveling away from home which is not
that frequent.

I also have shoes and bicycles that are still alive and well .........

Phasing out fossil fuels will reduce funding to several dictators, and that's on top of all of the other benefits.
hear hear

Tires will still be around that do require fossil type ingredients ..........

That's true, and the fact that oil prices are what they were decades ago we're far from running out. imho the 'fossil fuel' scam is silly.

Quote from above: Burning fossil-fuels kills an estimated 350,000 Americans a year, including 7,600 in Massachusetts, study finds. (February 9, 2021)

Why in hell is that quote above not sufficient? FF-has to go or you and your kids will likely live shorter lives ... !

hear hear

I'm talking about phasing out burning them for transportation and power generation.

Oh, really?

4 Effective Material Substitutes for Rubber
  1. Silicone
  2. Nitrile
  3. Vinyl
  4. Neoprene
With the supply of natural rubber under threat due to tree pathogens the world needs some alternatives. It’s a throw up between planting more rubber trees and destroying more areas or protected rain-forest and finding workable alternatives synthetically. But synthetic rubber varies in quality and application ...

Time will tell, it always does so ...

Kinda-sorta stoopid remark. Because there is no real alternative

There you go. You've just highlighted why it was not a kinda-sorta stoopid remark. The underlined sums up my whole point. Thanks for the assist.

- and that's for a great long time that cars/trucks are the main means of transportation. Which DOES NOT MEAN "KEEPING PEOPLE ALIVE" WHICH IS AN ELEMENTARY FACT-OF-LIFE ON EARTH.

Do you even read what you post? Cuz, it sure doesn't look like it. Without fossils fuels, nothing gets grown or transported, including food. Now, why don't you google what having no food means. You don't seen to understand.

Horses once upon a time used to "keep us alive"!

Correct. Along with ships with sails. It may have escaped your attention, but both have long since been replaced. EVERYTHING you have that wasn't grown in your own garden was brought to you in at least one fuel-burning conveyance - probably several.

Most importantly, that is all changing, and quickly.

No it isn't. Change is not even a blip yet. YOU said, "Because there is no real alternative". You're contradicting yourself in the space of less than one post.

They've not taught you proper-English up there in Canada. Too bad for you!

You go on Ignore ...

You do realise the EU allowing something to be consumed doesn't mean it's going to force people to eat it?
This is how every left wing policy fascination starts. “What if we, now we can, it’s voluntary, now it’s mandatory”
They also allow Hagis to be consumed but nobody is forcing anyone to eat it.

Plenty of people around the world consume insects anyway so I'm unsure what the problem is?
It’s part of an effort to eliminate traditional foods like dairy and meat from consumption
