Employment up 500k in January

We already have a thread in breaking news

January jobs report blows past expectations

Department said Friday. That number easily topped a Dow Jones consensus forecast of 187,000.

Good news, but Im confused by the numbers as everything else remained unchanged. No change in labor force or unemployment or part time employment, so where did the 500k people come from? People retired and people entered workforce?
There are two surveys... the Current Population Survey and the Establishment Survey. The former focuses on the unemployment rate, participation, labor force characteristics, etc... while the latter deals with nonfarm payroll numbers, etc.... CPS is a household survey while the ES is based on payroll data.
