Why you may ask your job to drop health insurance - Yahoo! Finance

Yeah so much for obamacare enabling people to keep their doctors huh barry? It looks like
it will be worth 1000's of dollars for employees to step in and say "cancel my insurance" which
I'm sure is going to go a long ways to helping the overall system in health care costs!

The fiasco-care needs to end. Pray the Republicans in Congress have the nerve to kill it
dead.

I know small business that dropped theirs because it was cheaper for all involved to either be on their spouse's policy or on a private plan like Blue Cross. I give folks a set amount and if they want it, it is up to them to find it because we were being rated allegedly due to someone very high risk but we were not allowed to know who that high risk individual was or why they were high risk, and yet everybody who was on the group policy got individual policies from the same company right after for a lot less than what we were paying as a group. It never made sense. Always felt like they were just gouging us using "HIPPA" as a cover and then they couldn't get away with that when they were just individual policies where every person had a right to know why they would be rated.

Moving away from employment-based health insurance is a good thing.

So let me see if I understand this:

Under the new law, some employees will be able to get coverage for their family for a price less than what they are now paying through their employer?

And this is bad.....how?

Because its less coverage, and likely subsidized by a bankrupt govt buying their votes.

Without having looked into this much, I would agree off the cuff that moving away from employer-provided health coverage is a positive. I HATE being in the insurance business, making those decisions for employees. I also dislike the risk, when you offer insurance you can guess how many people will purchase it, and you can never afford it if everyone purchased it, so you guess at how many people want it and hope that the bill ends up close to your prediction. All the paperwork and eligibility requirements, managing Cobra, changing providers due to costs and having some employees preferred providers being out of network, these have NOTHING to do with the business I'm in, and why I would make these choices better than an individual seems outrageous.

Maybe big business loves it because they get to negotiate preferential rates and small business and individuals pick up the difference, I don't know, but I want out.

That written, I think Cal's point is also valid. If the alternative is the federal government manages my insurance, what a terrible choice. So much for individuals managing their own insurance :/

But doesn't that depend on what it moves TO? Good has to be weighed relative to something else. If it's largely individuals in the marketplace, with government regulation and not government control/nationalization, universal healthcare, etc., then I would prefer to try that.

True enough I'd rather have my own control over my insurance than my employer. If I had to choose between an employer and government - the government is a crook and spy who has lost trust with the people.
Obamacare subsidies: How much will you get? - Aug. 21, 2013

The following link on obamacare from CNN shows that if you, as an individual, make more than $46k a year the government is going to take your money and pay for people's health insurance that make less AND force you to share a limited supply of services with those people you'r buying it for.....how benevolent of obama who will never participate - in fact I dare say not one of the socialist losers of the extreme left that made this happen thru the house / senate will participate in this - its a theft from the middle class for the poor.

No matter how you slice it, you're not going to have control over your insurance; the insurance company will

And the govt is not taking any money from me to pay for someone else's health insurance nor are they limiting the services I can get from my insurer. The govt is preventing the insurers from limiting the coverage they provide to me.

Really? You are so sure? That limited supply of health care you are now sharing with the poor isn't going to deprive you of anything - man no wonder our country is bankrupt some people are really gullable. If obama was hanging you from a tree you'd offer to buy the rope wouldn't you?

You missed $2k and $5k deductibles? Really?
So now you're arguing that the increased deductibles will mean more out of pocket costs for the employees?

And so the employees are going to ask employers to drop their coverage so that they can increase their out of pocket costs?

BTW "deductible" <> "coverage"

I have no idea what you're trying to say here, but the fact is that as things stand both before and after ACA, we are all paying the bills for people with no insurance. They go to the emergency rooms, and receive care and don't pay for it. The costs are added to all our bills.

That's one reason why health care is so expensive in the US.

But of course, you can't address the facts. That's why your post has nothing but partisan hackery

Of course I address it. Get in line, sit down, shut up and wait behind the homeless guy you just paid for his office visit. It use to be he had to go to the ER but now thanks to taking your money we can put him in front of you kids at the doctors office and make you wait.

obamafarce never increased services only the demand for services; hence you can ask the panel if you should just check into hospice or get the care you bought insurance for.

Oh, so now your definition of "less coverage" means "I have to wait to see the doctor!!!"

OH NOES!!! :lamo

Remember that when they tell you to check in six months down the road and see if the mass grew a little; after all they have to share your services you paid for with those who didn't now.

Yeah and the wait is going to get a lot longer; there is wait before ofailurescare and wait after. Don't cry when they can't get to you in a timely manner, just take your little pain meds and go to sleep ok.

Yes, we're going to have to wait for them to waiting rooms because, up until now, doctors offices didn't have waiting rooms...they weren't needed.

But maybe someday, you'll explain how coverage is going to be limited

Or maybe not

And maybe someday, you'll explain how employees getting insurance for less money is a bad thing

Or maybe not

A dumb ruling by the HHS.

The rules on affordability should have been equally applied to all people no matter thier situation.

But it does not matter any way, they can all get coverage as individuals.................and for less cost than the 9.5% employer coverage............

Cant wait untill the mega rich start paying that .9% tax on $400 million a year income!

Oh and wait untill I get to crow about paying $30 month for the same coverage all those rich people get that pay the full price from thier $80k income........LMAO!!!!!

PS
there is no "limited" in HC in USA. Its a fake shortage created by high prices and exclusion. Once we all get access, then the shortage is POOF GONE!

And your "middle class
" is dead. There is not middle class in USA any more. Because you cant count middle management as middle class, they dont work, and so cant be middle class....

Yup. The fun thing is, the CBO estimates that still have Obamacare breaking the bank are completely dependent on people not doing this. Everyone is going to rush the exchanges and they are going to shatter all records with exploding costs.

Which, darkly, is the silver lining in all this. Obamacare is going to break the bank, meaning that we will finally get entitlement reform.

What a nasty little piece of bigotry this is. You're as happy with the notion of others getting hurt as you are with getting something yourself, and eager to kick people out of the middle class under the idiotic notion that management doesn't perform labor.

furthermore, our problem in the U.S. is not a crises of a shortage of healthcare - it is that we have a third-party-payment system, and so we try to consume too much healthcare, relative to our needs. It is that artificially high demand that causes price spikes.

Oh, and the caps on your own expenses that you are so chortled with the notion of forcing others to pay for you?

also too expensive, also getting delayed, because they also turn out to be an idiotic part of perhaps the worst-thought-out piece of legislation in modern American history.

You have only one point right; the middle class is dead - killed by the socialist left.
