I used to live over there. The politics are very different and what is left and right, is not the same as here. Vive La France!
Vive la France!
Long live France!

No surprise?

Victory for the center.

Another defeat for populism.

Long Live a united Europe & the NATO alliance.

Also not sure who told Zelensky to shut his mouth the last 2 days however well done. Everything else is just irrelevant.

If Marine LePen wins, I will personally change my name to Populist for 1 week instead of Centrist. That's how sure I am, she has no chance. Also great thanks to the far left populists that understand is better for Macron to lead -> than a right-wing Putin close associate. Did she pay that loan? Oh no, it was disappeared through some Russian offshore accounts.
Macron remains rightfully and largely unpopular though for being the demonstrable plutocrat he is.

Let's not forget he was merely the least bad option, and that is the only reason he is in power. This is not a vote of confidence in or mandate for his horrid domestic policies; it is strictly and wholly a rejection of Le Pen.

Well, we could have some other populist from the left that would take the country in the same direction as François Hollande?

Do you remember when he started taxing the rich in the style of Bernie Sanders's ideas and people moved their money to Belgium, Switzerland, Holland? France went to such a recession that his popularity went under 10 %.

He did pay his barber about 10,000 euros a month, like every good socialist.

I'm not sure how Hollande's sins are a wholesale systemic indictment of policies to the left of Macron that the populace clearly prefers, nevermind that Hollande's taxes were terribly designed and had loopholes you could steer a tanker through (which could well be the deliberate product of lobbying); decent ideas (though there were way too many arbitrary numbers; should've definitely been better researched), terrible execution.

Besides that, Hollande never presided over sustained and ongoing mass riots, nor did he beget the rise of populism through policies that championed the rich at the direct expense of literally everyone else barring perhaps deeply unpopular pension reforms that Macron supported and intensified; this is the real story underlying the eventual dissipation of Hollande's support.

I
I think only real Nazis should be named "Nazi".
Nowadays "Nazi" is used inflationary for anybody, meaning simply: "somebody I dis-agree with".

That said, I'd like to add that I am pro-Macron. :)
I on occasion make a comparison to Hitler or the Nazi's, but I never call anyone Hitler or a Nazi, I call them fascist.

He won and that is good for the EU and NATO.
It's better to have the devil you know than the devil you don't know.

Live Updates: Macron Holds Off Far-Right Push in France
Marine Le Pen concedes defeat to President Emmanuel Macron, the first French leader to be re-elected since 2002.

So Marine Le Pen concedes defeat. That is the honourable thing to do.

I'm so glad Macron has won. He has been one of the few consistently good leaders of a large Western democracy in recent years.

Ah yes, those ongoing mass riots and justifiably and consistently terrible approval ratings are certainly proof positive of the excellence of his governing.

I'm glad Le Pen lost, but let's not pretend that Macron is actually good so much as less bad. At best, on foreign policy I'm generally a fan, but his domestic policy has been a debacle, and the single greatest source of Le Pen's strength.

I was happy to see the Emanual Macron won a second term. LePen would have been a disaster for both France and Europe.

A Le Pen victory in France's election run-off on April 24 would reverberate through Europe and across the Atlantic, installing a deep eurosceptic in the Elysee Palace who has long professed admiration for Russian President Vladimir Putin.

@ admiration for Putin - that's all we need!
