Former two-term GOP Senator Gordon Humphrey of New Hampshire emailed Edward Snowden yesterday [emphasis added]:

Mr. Snowden,
Provided you have not leaked information that would put in harms way any intelligence agent, I believe you havedone the right thing in exposing what I regard as massive violation of the United States Constitution.
Having served in the United States Senate for twelve years as a member of the Foreign Relations Committee, the Armed Services Committee and the Judiciary Committee, I think I have a good grounding to reach my conclusion.
I wish you well in your efforts to secure asylum and encourage you to persevere.
Kindly acknowledge this message, so that I will know it reached you.

I wished more politicans or ex politicans would uphold Snowden's rights and back what he did.

I have mixed feelings about Snowden, because I think maybe he gave a bit too much away, even if the other countries already knew it. At first when he exposed only the spying on Americans, I thought he was only trying to expose corruption, then later I don't know.

Thats kind of my feeling. If he's only exposing the policy of domestic information collection, I'm ok with it. Take issue with him exposing foreign intelligence gathering. Frankly view that as the NSA's primary mission. Guess you might not be able to divulge one without the other.

I have very strong feelings, and they are most supportive of Snowden and any other patriot who is willing to sacrifice his life to reveal the crimes of government.

Russell Tice, Thomas Drake, Bradley Manning, John Kiriakou, and several others are courageous and principled. Bravo for them.

That at least one Senator is willing to go on the record supporting him cuts both ways. Is he the only principled member of the Senate?

I forsee the cost of background checks and investigations for people getting a clearance to double in the next coupole of years.

I'll take it one step further--I think the Alien & Sedition Acts should be enforced vigorously. Any person that utters a word about government crimes should be immediately sent to Gitmo, and force-fed in perpetuity. Maybe throw in a month or 2 of intermittent torture, just for good measure.
