LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk made a brief public appearance late on Tuesday to unveil the first tunnel completed by the underground transit venture he launched two years ago as an ambitious remedy to Los Angeles’ infamously heavy traffic.

But contrary to some of his own hype from several months ago, free rides were not part of the grand opening.

Interesting guy, interesting project from his Boring Company. Promises cheap, high-speed transportation around Los Angeles & elsewhere.

At about $10M/mile for a single lane (that will not accomdate trucks) that does not seem very cost effective.

That seems hyper cheap to me. The cost of the legal gibberish for a road in a city is normally far more than that.

I believe Musk may have his eye on big siphon aqueducts hundreds or thousands of feet underground to deliver Great Lakes water to the desert SW. Big investment but potentially big payoff if you can get past the conservationists & local politicians.
