My electricity costs have increased, according to my provider, due to the high power demands of AI data centers which suck up energy like small cities.

The Trump administration has not addressed this growing problem.

Everyone knows I'm no Trump fan. Not even close. But to be fair, I'm not sure this is necessarily a Trump administration thing. This is going to be a big problem going forward- for any administration.

I'm just waiting for the price of milk to come down.

In Scotland nearly all consumer electricity is wind generated, with decades-worth of North Sea oil unpumped, and it's cheaper than New York State.
Double-down on hundreds of years old low-tech energy solutions while the rest of the world researches and innovates their way into the future. Long as there's one drop and one lump still underground, unsold...

As a gift to corporations, Trump/DOGE gutted most regulatory agencies within the federal government.

While that’s true most presidents don’t promise specifically to bring down energy costs. He continues to promise things he has no intention of delivering or will completely under deliver and claim success when it isn’t true like no taxes on social security for example.

They are going to go even higher when our trade war with Canada results in them cutting out access to their grid.

He’s canceling energy projects and transmission lines, unfortunately.

Huh....well, Trump just cancelled a $5 billion loan to the "Grain Belt Express" which would be the biggest electric transmission line in the US because.....well....who knows.

The Grain Belt Express (GBE) would bring electricity generated by windmills in Kansas to Missouri, Illinois, and Indiana.

The Missouri Public Service Commission approved the transmission line's path across Missouri. And GBE indicates that it has entered into voluntary right of way agreements with Missouri landowners (primarily farmers).

BUT, some farmers won't enter into agreements with GBE for transmission lines over their farms -- and so, GBE has been using eminent domaine to acquire (at fair value) those ROW rights.

Missouri's MAGA Senators .... who don't like windmill generated electricity (but probably like nuclear generated electricity, or coal, or natural gas, or hydro or - really - anything but windmills and solar, oh how they hate solar).... got Trump to cancel the loan guarantee to GBE.

GBE is also "shovel ready" - but, hey, who needs jobs?

Nothing says I am ignorant about how power companies raise rates like this op. Google the process of power companies raising rates to see that this isn't as simple as Trump is letting it happen. The process itself is cumbersome for companies to raise rates.

Natural gas prices are skyrocketing too.

There are some really dumb Trump voters in this country. Not sure how they tie their shoes.

FWIW, the Missouri Public Service Commission, which isn't known to be a liberal nest of communists, approved the GBE's pathway thru Missouri and granted it the power of eminent domain.
And the Missouri Public Service Commission found that Grain Belt would save Missourians $17 billion in lower electric bills.

But according to Sen. Hawley, Sen. Schmitt, and AG Bailey (all MAGA Republicans) its all a "boondoggle" for "green energy."

From the article. Click the link.

"Analysts previously indicated that a spike in natural-gas prices, surging loads from artificial intelligence-driven data centers triggering multibillion-dollar capacity charges, and an aging, congested grid were among the reasons Americans could see higher energy and electricity prices this summer."

Summer Electricity Bills Set to Jump Higher Than Last Year—Here's Why

Analysts say three forces are converging: a spike in natural-gas prices, surging load from artificial intelligence (AI)-driven data centers that is triggering multi-billion-dollar capacity charges, and an aging, congested grid that is passing ever-rising transmission costs on to consumers.

Regardles, it's Trump's job to fix it.

My power bill has gone into orbit.

I didn't ask for this.

I don't see why anybody has to profit from something that everyone needs.

Social needs should be provided by government. When the government functions to deliver services to the public, it has great advantages to keep the cost down. Government has: a) The power of high volume - it's everybody - you can't get higher volume than that. Things are cheaper when done in high volume; b) No profit margin. Government doesn't have to try to make a profit or pay absurdly high compensation to executives.

Volume Pricing and a profit margin of 0 = the lowest possible cost to the public.

But no!

We can't take advantage of these built-in advantages because big money spends a lot to convince the public that government is a monster and needs to be avoided. Big money says we are better off with a small government that's easier for billionaires to buy, corrupt and exploit. So far, the American public is pretty much swayed by the big money arguments - so we have a very corrupt bought government.

Most people know about it, but they are too swayed by wedge issues to stop voting for big money funded corrupt candidates.

The way around it is to change the political climate by passing thousands of local non-binding resolutions in favor of the American Anti Corruption Act. That will send the message that the public would support Anti-Corruption candidates in any party. When enough resolutions have passed those candidates will come forward and get elected. When enough of them are elected then laws can change and new Amendments can pass.

We can't pass any Constitutional Amendments with the current political climate, so we have to gradually change the political climate. It will take a long time but it is something we can and need to do. Put it on the bucket list to act locally and get this done.

Exactly. He ran on lowering our energy costs. He claimed by lowering energy, he would lower the prices of goods.

Anecdotally, my bill electric bill appears higher too.

And don't even get me going about beef prices! Hamburger is over six bucks a pound!

I'll mention something else. When it comes to fossil fuels and pumping oil, just because a property allows a well to be sunk and tap into great underground reservoirs, that should not entitle the property owner to do that and claim all the oil is theirs to sell.

Those reservoirs are under our nation. That oil should belong to the USA, not private individuals and property owners.

Meanwhile a natural gas shipping facility just got operational near Prince Rupert, BC and has started shipping to China.
When you attack people the natural reaction is to either attack that person back or stab them in the back every time you get a chance.

And I'm not talking about physically. I'm talking about politically and financially.

It's one of the reasons that everything Trump touches turns to shit.

Just paid my electric bill, 11.56 cents US per KWH. How does that compare to cost in the U.S.?

Hope you don’t drink coffee. Prices have increased more than 100%.

I wonder if young Trump voters have figured out that he's just a con man.

Based on the non stop stream of excuses here I’m gonna go with no.

Thank science and my decision 11 years ago to get solar. A hedge against future increases was my major reason.
