Election Interference: Google Purges Breitbart from Search Results

A few days after the 2016 election, at an internal meeting later leaked to Breitbart News, top Google executives, including Sundar Pichai, Sergey Brin, and Kent Walker, lamented President Trump’s victory, comparing Trump voters to “extremists” and discussing their desire to make Trump’s election and the populist movement a “blip” in history.

True to their word, four years later, Google is deliberately working to interfere with the reelection of Trump in 2020.

There are several ways in which Google is interfering in the 2020 election, but this article will focus primarily on one of them: political search bias.

Google Has Been Purging Breitbart Content from Search Results Since the 2016 Election

Search visibility is a key industry measure of how findable a publisher’s content is in Google search. New data shows that Google has suppressed Breitbart’s search visibility by 99.7 percent since 2016.

Google is above freedom of speech because they are in pursuit of a higher goal: Getting rid of Trump and conservative influence in the media.

I’m sure many here are just fine being manipulated by big tech.

Conservatives are all for the rights of a private company, until they disagree with them....

Perhaps, but IMO that "blanket claim" can be made of any political lean, especially those that support cancel culture.

It seems to me that currently at least, it is the Progressive-Left including those who claim to be Liberal but act Socialist that support pushing all sorts of censorship.

Free market, you only support it when you agree with it....

Breitbart is garbage, Google doing people a favor.

I support it wholeheartedly. For example I use DuckDuckGo and sometimes Bing, NEVER Google for the very reasons complained about in the OP.

That does not mean one must refrain from pointing out abuses by the mort "popular" internet purveyors of information.

That falls under "free speech."

what does acting socialist mean?

Might want to look at all the things Trump and trumpsters have called for "cancelling" over the years. FAKE NEWS is the ultimate but don't look now.

"FAKE NEWS" is propaganda posing as news. We see it in every case where instead of reporting facts we get commentary and opinion presenting misinformation and disinformation while calling it "news."

By the way, labeling people in an attempt to degrade/demean them is no way to engage in a rational argument, much less deserving of a response.

Tagline time. :coffeepap:

I agree with this - you have every right to complain. After all, one person's social responsibility is another's "abuse".

But that's really as far as it goes. I do applaud you, however, for choosing another search engine, rather than attempting to infringe upon Google's 1A rights. This is why I appreciate you, Cap'n, even though we disagree sometimes. ;)

Oh this is too good. A Trump supporter whining about degrading and demeaning. What are you the PC police now?
You have the honor of being the biggest hypocrite on this forum.

They are not allowed to use monopoly market power to suppress opinions.

It is not a free market of ideas with a thumb on the scale.

I use BING.

BTW, a short time ago, even DP got disappeared from Google search. Even with the high percentage of TDS’ers, the conservative opinions must have been deemed to be too dangerous by the mighty “It’s not our fault” Google search engine!

You are using alternate media...ergo its not a monopoly...

Or, Breitbart is full of ****.

Basically, people aren't linking to or looking for Breitbart articles. I'm sure a bunch of other items drag down their search results -- no one really knows how Google's algorithm works.

However, Google these days is highly customized for the user. Unless you are taking extreme steps to constantly clean your computer, Google will quickly adapt your search results based on past results, and what it's figured out about you. (Youtube, Facebook etc all do the same thing.) So, if you are into conservative news, you're more likely to see conservative news in your search results, and ads that Google believes appeal to conservative news consumers.
