El Chapo says the border is NOT where drugs come from

Regardless of what Trump says, the primary reason for a physical barrier is to make illegal entry into the US more difficult and give Border Patrol a better opportunity to apprehend the illegals.

Not a good use of resources, according to anyone who who works on and knows anything about border security.

We have known this for a long time. A wall MIGHT put a dent in illegal immigration, but it will have virtually zero effect on drug trafficking. When the right claims it will they risk casting doubt on rest of their claims about the wall.

These have been widely published facts for at least a decade. 60% of illegals are 'overstays', those who do cross at rural areas are usually amnesty claims.

I will bet anyone that I can get ANYTHING small enough to carry into the United States any time I want. All along Canada's 7,000 miles of borders with the US Mainland and Alaska there is exactly zero walls, fences, barricades etc.

This isn't about security.

They need to stick to that talking point then.

It is like when people in favor of legalizing marijuana exaggerate the benefits. It hurts the cause.

Unfortunately, no one asked for my advice, but I agree the whole drug angle is kind of silly.

So using your logic, we should get rid of the barriers that already exist?

The trial of the Mexican cartel kingpin El Chapo is giving the US a lot of insight into how these Mexican cartels operate. They are learning about channels of entry, distribution networks, etc...

The last place these drugs come from, it turns out, is the border. And even when they do, walls are "no problema".

The only thing I'm interested in from El Chapo is who he paid off in the American government.

Why would you take this drug kingpin at his word? Let us leave aside the fact that we know right now that most of the illegal drugs our government has interdicted have come through legal ports of entry (I would argue that this is because those legal point of entry are actually guarded). But if you were the head of a major cartel with family members who run it alongside you, why would you give away all the ways and means your organization uses to smuggle drugs across the border into the United States? What is the incentive to tell the truth?

I have no doubt that El Chap knows that building stronger border security, including a border wall, is an issue of major contention within the United States and is dividing American society. If smuggling drugs across unguarded sections of the border is indeed one way he gets drugs into the United States, why on Earth would he give that away and say "Oh, yeah, a well-guarded border wall would probably hurt a lot of my drug trafficking operations."?

The OP used the wrong title. The article is "El Chapo trial shows why a wall won't stop drugs from crossing the US-Mexico border."

It proceeds to weave things revealed at the trial and said by various officials. It's not just some description of something El Chapo himself said.

Do your homework. Google Mena Barry Seal Terry Reed Noriega Contras Sineloa Oliver North Clinton GHWBush. Take your time, you've got lots of reading to do. Any prosecutor that attempts to bring this info into court will abruptly be stopped on National Security grounds. Classified. Top Secret.

Look at it this way, if Mexico stopped importing drugs to the US, half of America will run across the border and become illegals in Mexico...

Best answer about drugs I've ever read, thanks.

No That would need even more resources. Keep the ones we have, and use what we have now to listen to the experts and see what they recommend. That may mean additional walls in some areas, and other measures elsewhere. It might even mean diverting more resources to places like seaports and airports.

This business of building a beautiful wall from Siri shining sea is not really a practical recommendation. It is a monument and a symbol to raw fear and hatred.

Let's see: Cohen, proven Liars Brennan, Comey, McCabe, Strzok, Page, Baker, Weissman, the BJ Queen, Mouthenatti, Buzzfeed, and now we can add El Chapo to the growing list of the Dems Star Water Carriers!!

El Chapo also says he was not the drug lord, too.

An esteemed list, to say the least....

I asked Siri about the wall and she was confused. :)

I agree. I don’t think a physical barrier along the entire border is needed, but I do think border security needs to be strengthened. I’ve read what Border Patrol has recommended, and I’d like to see their plans implemented as a starting point.

Yeah sure. OK. That sounds very reasonable. This is complicated stuff and needs a lot of discussion and negotiation and consulting and planning with specialists and experts in the field. And most Dems have signaled their willingness to engage in such discussions. But there is no crisis or emergency.

So you can see why it’s so puzzling to see this manufactured crisis, with the entire US government taken hostage, with the demand that a big beautiful wall be built from sea to shinning sea in an emergency manner, or federal employees go hungry. It’s just odd, not to mention dysfunctional. This may be how things work in a private corporation where there is a sole owner who is the boss and the CEO , with no oversight from a board. This is not how the US Government works, or has ever worked.

Wait, I am a little puzzled. You are showing me a video of how walls don’t work, to prove to me why we need to build a wall?

What makes you think those two got away with sneaking drugs accross the border ? Who do you think took that photo ?

Point of order.....

If those guys were there to take the picture, wouldn't they still have been there without the wall?

If anything stopped them, it was the photos. That wall looked like only a minor consideration.
