Send a sympathy card to Elizabeth Edwards and get campaign literature in return! Maybe Ann Coulter was on to something when she joked that the Mrs. Edwards illness was a campaign ploy.

When you visit the John Edwards for President Web site, you're invited to send a sympathy note to the Edwardses. And tens of thousands of well wishers have done so since that heart-wrenching news conference two weeks ago at which Elizabeth Edwards courageously discussed her incurable cancer.

What those well wishers get in return -- e-mail messages soliciting contributions to Edwards's campaign.

But he only received about $14 million so far. Obama has about $25 million and Hillary about $26 million.

I think Coulter's jokes are not so relevant right now as far as fund raising. Did you know the Democrats have brought in a total of about $80 million to the Republicans $50 million?

That means the Republican Presidential candidates have only raised about 60% of what the Democrats have raised. If this trend continues I would be worried if I were a GOP backer.

I see you missed the real story here. This thread is not about which party has raised more money. It is the conflict of interest and his using her illness as an advantage that is shameful.

let me see, I just sent a well wish to the Edwards so I will post the exact email they send back to me when I recieve it.

That will be interesting. Although, now that it is exposed, no telling what you'll receive.

I never did get anything. There was an option

to Check here if you'd like to receive future emails from the campaign.

but I didn't check it. I wonder if that's why they recieved campaign info or if it just came automatically before people starting saying something. oh well I guess we're too late to find out for sure.

Looks like they cleaned it up a little, huh? Still, it is pretty cheesy to wish her well and even have the option of receiving his campaign literature.

How disgraceful.

You mention a conflict of interest. There isn't one. Potential candidates use everything positive and any personal struggle in their lives for raising money. If Edwards is raising money partly based on eliciting sympathy for his wife's illness, I think its kind of disgusting, but it is legal and also its being done with Elizabeth Edward's approval.

With all the questionable campaign tactics that have been used in the past, like painting a straight candidate as gay, or a traitor, or a crook, it seems to me that Edward's methods are relatively very tame.

Nice dodge. I'd say tryreading, but that's too easy. Start at the top. Go slowly.

You start a topic discussing John Edward's ecampaigning tactics, and I discuss that and other campaigning information. Wow, what a non-sequitor.

If you don't want to hear about the status of current campaign coffers, just ignore my posts on them. I won't cry for very long.

Then we agree. And no one was saying it is illegal, just putrid.

You said it was a conflict of interest, implying an illegal or at least unethical intent. But it is not a conflict of interest in any sense that I know of.

Two interests: Sympathy and cash. That's a conflict. My saying so doesn't imply illegality, except to you, apparantly.

The topic of campaigning? Money has everything to do with it.

What does it have to do with the specific topic, what Edwards did on his website? Or are you just trying to change the subject to defend it?

This does not surprise me at all.....Never trust and ambulance chaser.......

I addressed the topic directly, and then posted related material.

Let me show you something:

Mole hill

Mountain

Tiresome, guy, very tiresome.

You do realize that most of the Congressmen are lawyers, don't you? That includes Republicans.

That is true but they are not all ambulance chasers or trial lawyers like Edwards...........Many are prosecutors like Rudy......

ahhhhhhh......Navy.......Prosecutors ARE trial lawyers.

oh....and BTW.....just a little education.....the term "ambulance chaser"....is a term that is generally used to smear Personal Injury/Tort attorneys....hence the term. It doesn't really fit if you are trying to apply it to a contract lawyer or a patent lawyer, etc.

But its cute to see you try to rescessitate a talking point that really didn't get Rove and his smear-mongers very far in the last election.

come on, girls, you're both pretty. shall we get back on topic?
