Jon Edwards' announcement of running for president was trumped by the death of Republican President Ford and later buried by the execution of Saddam Hussein. Countless photo ops of Edwards standing in one of New Orleans ghettos proudly declaring his candidacy never reached the newspapers.

The former trial attorney's campaign manager supposedly suggested the date of the announcement to maximize media coverage due to the normally slow news week between Christmas and New Years.
