Education Dept Unites Conservative Groups To Create 'Patriotic' Instruction​


The Department of Education is partnering with dozens of conservative organizations to develop civics education programming "dedicated to renewing patriotism."

On Wednesday (September 17), the Education Department announced the new initiative, titled "America 250 Civics Education Coalition," aiming to "educate, inspire, and mobilize youth toward active and informed citizenship," per NPR.

Led by the America First Policy Institute (AFPI), the initiative will unite over 40 conservative organizations, including Turning Point USA and the Heritage Foundation, to create civics education programming. Education Secretary Linda McMahon said the effort is “dedicated to renewing patriotism, strengthening civic knowledge, and advancing a shared understanding of America's founding principles in schools across the nation.”

Linda McMoron is allowing a bunch of KKK members to direct education. She needs to be removed from office and deported to Corrupticut.

There really isn't anything that they falsely accuse others of that they don't actually do themselves.

EDIT: and of course they try to both sides it by claiming that it's "indoctrination" to teach that LGBTQ people are human beings, that slavery was horrible, and that isms are bad.
 
I support mandatory civics education, but since MAGA has never seen a constitutional provision it respects (they are even now getting selective with the second amendment) I don’t expect whatever they put together to remotely reflect American principles, or to accurately characterize history.
 
I expect there to be training on how to burn a cross.
 
Considering the fact that so many Americans appear to have lost the courage to live in a democracy, and yearn for a strongman dictator to make it all better for them, I'm a big fan of un-****ing whatever went wrong with the DoE. But nowadays whenever I hear something like "dozens of conservative organizations", I can't help but think those people are most likely part of the problem, not the solution.

If we want more Americans to love America, then it needs to be more loveable. And they need to understand what America is all about, and just as importantly, what it's not about.
 
They can’t review the thousands of files backlogged on the desks of Dept of Education employees from current students facing challenges in accessing education…

Most states have civics education as a graduation requirement already.

Since, you know, states set curriculum standards not the federal government.
 
I'm all for civics & history as long as it doesn't point out the crimes against humanity done by our white ancestors

Civil rights advocates have been critical of recent actions by the Trump administration around education that they say curtail free speech and undermine critical parts of U.S. history through attempts to revamp museums and public spaces and pressure educational institutions.

The White House said in August that Trump signed an executive order to tighten federal grant approvals, with grant award decisions to now undergo evaluation by Trump's political appointees.

The Education Department said on Wednesday it was launching a civics education coalition that included over 40 partner groups aligned with Trump's "Make America Great Again" movement....

The federal government is prohibited by law from "any direction, supervision, or control over the curriculum" in schools.

Education Department officials did not return a request for comment Wednesday night....

This is not the first time President Trump has sought to promote patriotism in education. During his first term he founded the "1776 Commission" to advise on how to teach young people the "founding principles" of the nation. In an executive action earlier this year, part of a broader announcement about "ending racial indoctrination" in schools, he revived it.
