From THE NEW REPUBLIC: Prepare Yourselves for Speaker Boehner

Opening sentence: "Earth to House Democrats: It’s time to push the panic button."

Excerpt:
Democrats must face the fact that much of the legislation that seems both necessary and proper to them looks quite different to the portion of the electorate that holds the balance of political power. And they must face a choice as well—between (to be blunt) the politics of conviction and the politics of self-preservation.

Agree or disagree?

At this point I think the only thing that would really help the Democrats is better news on the job front. Changing strategy at this point is probably going to look like panic and thus not help much. In essence, they've got to hope they haven't totally screwed up on their economic policies so far and hope for some employment recovery. If that happens then they will hold the House. If it doesn't happen then it doesn't matter what strategy they adopt they will lose the House. So the Democrats are probably better off avoiding the panic button as it can't help them if things fail to improve, and will be unnecessary if they do improve.

Most people couldn't tell you much about the "agenda" other than health care. As the old saying goes "It's the economy, stupid." If the economy improves, so will the Democrat's chances. It's one of the main reasons the Republicans did so poorly in the last election as well. It's the economy, stupid.

In that case the Dem's are hosed. Europe is on the cusp of utter chaos, and if you don't think that will hit us...
