I recently posted that Earth Day represents the last time democracy was functioning, with grass-roots empowered to raise a cause, before the corporate takeover of our politics. Here's an article on the topic of how it was created.

Thank you for the reminder of the good old days, when the corporate right-wing-nuts, and fossil fuel fools, had yet to go completely off the rails. I still vividly remember back when we had bipartisan sanity and cooperation . . . . although it already seems like more than a lifetime ago.

I was in Central Park NYC on the first Earth Day, carrying my niece on my shoulders for hours. I bought the hastily created T-shirt of the event - yellow block letters on a green ground, with no graphics at all - and I had that shirt for decades.
