ABC News: Duke Lacrosse Case Charges to Be Dropped

The office of North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper will announce that he is dismissing all charges against three Duke Lacrosse players, ABC News has learned from sources close to the case.

The three players, Reade Seligmann, David Evans and Collin Finnerty, were facing charges of first degree kidnapping and first degree forcible sexual offense. The charges stem from an off-campus party on the night of March 13, 2006.

So 13 months and ~$5 million later, they're finally done with this.

Well, until they begin recouping that $5 million from NC, Nifong, and Duke that is...

I hope Nifong pays dearly for his unprofessionalism.

I thought you were hoping he would charge Karl Rove, drag him in front of a grand jury and then file a phony perjury charge against him.

You're damn right I would hope for that!

My new grandson.

Actually I wonder if they can charge him with anything, they are reporting now that Nifong is meeting with his attorney's.

Then I wonder if all those who had assumed the guilt of these young men will issue public apologies.

Awesome...

If we learned anything from this, is that there are scumbag lawyers out there looking to subvert and divide our communities for their own personal gain, instead of trying to uphold justice. Nifong should pay, and pay dearly...

Will the accusor be charged with filling a false charge of rape?

My new grandson.

Ooh, Stinger, he is beautiful! What a great picture. Thanks for sharing.

My little guy isn't due for another 5 weeks or so. I'll post a picture soon thereafter.

I believe Nifong is in trouble professionally. I would like to see either the state or one of the accused go after him.

I am one of the people who thought they were guilty, so I apologize to them for having such thoughts.

I hope so. She a scumbag, and I would like her to serve some time in jail. It's women like this that give other women who have valid claims a bad name. It's really shameful.

I think everyone could learn a lesson from this...young ppl especially.

#1)if you lie about rape, you will make an 'a' of yourself, you WILL ruin ppl's lives, and you will never have any credibility as long as you shall live.

2)guys need to not put themselves in posistions where there could be any speculation of unethical activity regarding sex.

3)lawyers, don't rush, don't jump the gun...especially for a side agenda.

I come from the triangle area and this kind of race division is the norm, unfortunately. In Durham, there is an atmosphere of elitism from the Duke students and a feeling of resentment from the poorer communities surrounding. Duke students constantly get dragged into race squabbles. I was shocked that this one made the headlines it did...

I never doubted for one minute they were innocent.

dont forget lesson 4)

that Rape Shield Laws are a direct violation of the 6th Amendment.

They have wasted no time getting her real name and picture out there. Her family blames it on race, rich white boys getting special treatment, poor black girl being discriminated against. Typical.

It is a constant theme in Durham, unfortunately. (meaning, the race card gets played for EVERYTHING.)

I am glad to see these boys able to go on with their academic careers now.

No
not only did the AG say the defendents were Innocent
but that the accuser would not be charged because 'she believed what she said to be true'

seems the way things may go is....

disbarment due to ethics
revocation of immunity
sued by defendants
and finally Federal Civil Rights violation trial
would be nice to see all of the above, but i will be satisfied with the first 3 options

I think all 4 should be the standard. These guys had their civil rights violated by having malicious prosecution brought against them.

The coach of the Lacrosse team got fired over this right?

Well...he's gonna have one hell of a wrongful termination lawsuit against the University now.

I agree
but as time goes by......
you know how it goes

another thing I found interesting, and sad, is that the boys legal team was estimated to cost them (their families) $1,000,000 per defendant
which doesnt say much for the poor people in the same situation who dont get the high profile attn

and no, this will not make me turn in my Conservative card

What this DA did was anything but conservative. A conservative would have said early on, "This case is unwinnable because the accuser is lying" and called it a day. This guy wasted so much energy trying to win political clout and admiration from minority groups.

I would like to think that any reasonable DA would have done that
I was refering to the disparity in the legal system with the 'turning in my card' reference

Are you implying that a liberal would have kept going? Anybody who saw this case knew the odds. It has nothing to do with being a liberal and conservative. It has to do with what the DA wanted. He wanted admiration. He wanted to win one of those golden cases. He lost.
