The pickle Trump will find himself in is why he continued to minimize the pandemic well after many politicians changed course once it became obvious how contagious and impactful the disease is. The other problem for Trump is now everyone knows he was fully aware of the gravity of the disease early on but chose to downplay it in order to not create panic. That's a pretty poor judgement call because there are many ways of alerting people to threats without creating a panic; lest one believes we shouldn't tell people there's a fire because we're afraid they'll panic. Of course what will also come into play is how much of his re-election concerns factored into his decision making.

What is equally important is why does Trump continually lie about things the public has facts on?
One could pick almost any subject and Trump has not told the truth.
- Covid 19
- Health Plan release and release date
- Creating new jobs after the pandemic layoff. (nope, they are not new just people being called back to work)
- Complaining that Biden has done nothing about CV19 (Hint, doesn't Trump realize he is the President not Biden)

Again, no one is questioning the information people of both parties were stating at that stage, the question is why did Trump not change his rhetoric until very late in the game? What made no sense was to implement a travel ban, then downplay the virus well after the fact it was clear there was a serious threat; the impact on the northeast should have been that warning sign. Yet Trump continued to downplay the virus and critique the prevention protocols some states were taking until July. Since then he's back to his old rhetoric.

The release of the recording where Trump clearly states he knew how the virus was spreading and the threat it presented, makes it pretty clear he made a really poor decision in how he chose to communicate the threat level. His "LIBERATE [Insert state here]" tweets, his comments about the virus just disappearing etc. ran counter to what he clearly knew. Informing the public wouldn't create a panic if you present a plan on how the Federal government plans to help states address the pandemic. If you present a problem with no plan or potential solution, you're bound to get a crap show; and here we are.
