Dozens of Israeli activists demonstrated Thursday evening outside the Shin Bet’s offices in Tel Aviv, demanding the internal security agency cease using administrative detention and torture, particularly against Palestinian minors.

To mark Human Rights Day, the protesters held a display in which several of them demonstrators were blindfolded and tied in various positions to resemble the torture Palestinians undergo at the hands of the Shin Bet. The protest was the first of its kind outside the agency’s offices.

The article goes on to explain what " administrative detention" is and provides some figures about how many Palestinians are currently detained in such a situation. Basically , administrative detention is an ongoing detention without any charges being made against the individual or any trial dates given. Thus those under this form of detention without charge or trial are in prison not knowing what they are charged with nor when they will be released.

The protesters also simulated positions allegedly used to torture prisoners during interrogations by the same organisation.

Administrative detention is wrong if no charges are forthcoming in a reasonable time. And it looks like Israel is anything but reasonable in this.

According to the Israeli HRs group Btselem administrative detention is........

Btselem said:
.......... incarceration without trial or charge, alleging that a person plans to commit a future offense. It has no time limit, and the evidence on which it is based is not disclosed. Israel employs this measure extensively and routinely, and has used it to hold thousands of Palestinians for lengthy periods of time. While detention orders are formally reviewed, this is merely a semblance of judicial oversight, as detainees cannot reasonably mount a defense against undisclosed allegations. Nevertheless, courts uphold the vast majority of orders.

" Alleging that a person plans to commit a future offense " without having to supply any evidence to those being charged, or their legal people, support it. Talk about a licence to evade due process and imprison people with impunity
