Double standards for the Republicans

There is a great article by E.J. Dionne in today's Washington Post. He talks about how democrats were criticized by republicans for asking Roberts how his religious beliefs impacted his stance on issues. Yet republicans were touting Miers's religious beliefs in wanting to get the Senate republicans to support her.

He also points out how republicans were critical of democrats who attempted to find out Roberts's views on legal issues, yet the republicans were demanding that Miers reveal how she felt on legal issues.

So, it's okay for the conservatives to probe into a candidate's legal views and religious beliefs and how they affect their legal views, but when the democrats do it, it's not just not okay, it's totally inappropriate. Okaaaaaaaaaaay.

They've also immediately started the call for a up or down vote for Alito, but you didn't hear that same talk from them for Miers.
