Have you noticed lately that the right-wing attacks have been LASER FOCUSED on public education? This is because the right-wing has for decades wanted to privatize the public education system -- to the benefit of the super-rich and to funnel public funds into private companies, making it a playground for bunko artists. As with the culture wars IN GENERAL, the goal is to enrich and advantage the top 1% of the population. They don't care about Culture Wars. It's a vehicle to enact an agenda.

DON'T. BE. FOOLED.

I would offer both are an interest, but addressing one advances the other.

It is not rocket science to propose when a public sector union becomes political adversaries to Republicans then all of a sudden we see engagements by Republicans to undermine the underlying institution involved. In this case public schools. It was never about doing something meaningful about education, it was about a political target.

That said, it became easy for modern conservatism (aka the American Taliban) to engage modern liberalism on the culture war front. The more subjects Democrats come up with, no matter if the CRT route or history lesson route or something more like transgender issues, the more Republicans in states they control will respond targeting the public education system in some way.

The voter pools in these states may or may not respond on who is in control but I would also offer, what did everyone think would happen when throwing more fuel into the fire of the current political climate on Democratic wants vs Republican wants?

I would even further offer this will become the standard process when dealing with *anything* that can be weaponized against public education.

In a recent Quinnipiac poll the top 2 concerns for Americans were Inflation followed by Immigration. That doesn't bode well for the Democrats

There is definitely a legitimate market for culture wars among elements of the conservative base (hence why they're hugely effective), but the people who are stoking the culture wars largely don't care about the actual issues involved. It's a different brand of conservatism. There is pretty much zero chance Betsy DeVos is sitting around wondering about the impact of CRT in kindergarten classrooms, but throwing this imaginary red meat the conservative base and getting skepticism about public education into the public discourse definitely serves her interest. It serves the interest of Bill Gates, for that matter -- who donates to much of these same causes -- and whose influence on public education has been an unmitigated disaster.

This goes into a deeper conversation that no single person should be able to accumulate enough wealth to change the course of human history, but we'll shelve that.

The right has always tried to destroy education and then teach a Confederate ideology.

The fact that they could destroy public education and make a gazillion dollars doing is just gravy.
