Donald Trump to meet with Henry Kissinger: Washington Post

“Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is scheduled to meet on Wednesday with former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, the Washington Post reported on Monday, citing three people close to Trump. …………

…………Last week, Trump met with former Secretary of State James Baker, who told a congressional hearing on the same day as the meeting that Trump's foreign policy proposals would make the world a less stable place………….

A show meeting with Henry Kissinger will not fix Trumps total lack of understanding of the issues facing USA foreign policy……….. (This is not my assessment but has been stated by Chairman of Senate Foreign relations Committee, former Sec. of State James Baker, and Trumps own campaign staff to name but a few…) One observer said he is dangerous to the well-being of the country and deserves to be beaten badly come election time on this issue alone…….

Let's see if he makes a fool a of himself when taking the traditional trip to Europe suggesting he has experience with foreign policy…..

That's a stroke of political genius!

If Trump somehow brings Dr. Kissinger onboard (his campaign and/or administration), he instantly picks-up foreign policy gravitas!

I'd love to see Kissinger back in the White House (if the good Dr is still of sound mind and body - he's not the youngest guy out there!).

Mr. Trump has shown an uncanny ability to proactively neutralize his opponent's criticisms by forming political alliances that strike at his critics' jugulars. When the GOP establishment claimed Trump was a risk due to the SCOTUS nominees he might pick, he prepared a list jointly with the Heritage foundation! Now he's meeting with Kissinger! It's genius, if he can pull-it-off! But Kissinger never was a push-over - this could backfire if Kissinger becomes recalcitrant or antagonistic.

I bet they have lots of common ground, both being of the Curtis LeMay School of diplomacy.
"Bomb 'em back into the Stone Age!"

Is Kissinger still alive?

Given the current bad blood between the Bush family and Trump, and given that James Baker is a Texan that is basically a Bush family member, I can see why Baker would not get on the Trump train even if Trump's foreign policy was immaculate. Baker would have been a great 'get' for Trump.

It would make me feel a hell of a lot better about Trump and his foreign policy potential if he was somehow able to bring Kissinger on board.

Is Kissinger still alive?
Of course!

And, it seems this has been brewing for awhile:

"The meeting in New York comes after weeks of telephone conversations between Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee, and Kissinger, who was a top adviser to Presidents Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford, the Post said."

Don't let them get behind you with that board. I hear they hurt.
Calling Kissinger from the grave with the Ouija Board. Priceless. Should we bomb ISIS? Y--E--L--P I D--O--N--'T K--N--O--W

Did not know the guy was still alive.

Yeah, he's ready for the grueling rigors of political life.
Good point.

I think if Trump can get any kind of positive public comment from Dr. Kissinger, he will have scored a political coup. If Kissinger agrees to continue any type of relationship with the billionaire at all, even tangentially - it's even a bigger deal!

Hell, just getting Kissinger to agree to meet him elevates his status!

Sounds like Trump is becoming and more establishment. Or trying to be.
The fact that some of these guys whose ideologies ran diametrically opposed to Trump's ideologies in the primaries and are still unsatisfied with Trump's positions clearly delineate that Trump is attempting to show similarities in philosophies but that he isn't a sellout as you intimate.

Endorsements from McConnell, Boehner, et. al. Trump has always been part of the politico-donor establishment nexus, just on the other side of the exchange.

To the extent that Donald Trump has a philosophy, it's proto-national-socialism.

Donald Trump: All that stuff I said? They were just suggestions. It's sorta like "If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor".

I'll give Trump credit for this: he has been meeting with a lot of people recently that disagree with him. That at least gives the appearance of being diplomatic and open minded.

Trump says he can see the Russian Embassy to the UN from Trump Tower.

I guess you do not pay attention..........Just a few weeks ago he was blaming/condemning Kissinger, James Baker and the like for all the problems we have in foreign affairs.............

Now he makes a media event out of meeting with Kissinger as if Trump now knows something about foreign affairs.......

Both Baker a Kissinger are solidly in the Bush circle..............and more than likely told Trump to buzz off...........

Gravitas makes it seem one knows something...travels in the circles of the elite.................But just to "seem/look like" doesn't mean he knows squat...........Even Trumps campaign manager has public ly stated the same..........."The man does not have a clue" or words to that effect

Did you know that ole Henry cannot leave this country because he faces arrest for war crimes and will be turned over to the World Court..........No kidding

You're missing the point.

If Dr. Kissinger comes out in support of Trump or makes any positive comments, yes it gives Trump Gravitas in GOP circles.
