Yes, there are many troops in the US and South Korea, but having troops so close to the biggest US enemy of the late 20th and early 21st century is of immense importance.

And I have no doubt that it would cost the US way more to have these troops stationed in the US itself. Because now a lot of the costs of the military base and the stationing of troops is payed by S.Korea and Japan. It would be more expensive for the US fiscal budget to station these troops in the US because then every dollar would be going out of the US federal budget rather than being footed by Japan and S.Korea.

Also, for a man wanting to make America great again he whines a lot about things outside of the US rather than putting numbers to paper and explain how he thinks he is going to make America again specifically. Let him explain in detail how he wants to deport the illegals, how he wants to exactly build the wall and how he is going to pay for that wall (because we all know that Mexico is not going to be doing that).

How is the US going to expand it's manufacturing industry when loads of stuff of big US companies are multinationals and will not be helped by isolationist policies or trade tariffs because if the US does that, other countries will be doing the same and that might hurt the US industry/multinationals seriously.

And let him explain how he intends to get out of treaties regarding trade (like the one with Mexico and Canada) and how he wants to make the WTO (World Trade Organization) do his bidding.

Having stump speeches is one thing (even though he regularly tells whoppers of lies in those speeches), you cannot run a country based on things you shout in a campaign rally in the rural heartland of Iowa for example. You run the country by having concrete policies with all the trimmings (like details and executable plans that have a chance of actually being able to put in place) and so far Donald Trump is mightily sparse with real worked out plans and policies.

All this shooting from the hip might be fine in a campaign stump speech but that is not going to be effective in congress or the senate (and especially not in dealing with leaders from other countries).

Holy crap on a cracker - Can no one that has access to this asshole read Wikipedia? This was a pretty big deal on all our national news channels a year ago.

That is what happens when you best foreign policy advisor is ......... he himself. And that is why he says so many stupid things. He is a gaffe machine so it is no wonder that if someone who seems addicted (to ridiculous levels) of conspiracy nutters like Jones and gets a lot of information of things he thinks he has heard (mostly when he says it I assume/fear or when news media shows him saying it) and reads (most likely again when he has said them during a rally and it is written down by the media), says the most insane things barely based on reality (at best) and complete fantasy/conspiracy theory (at worst).

Not really a viable candidate to lead the world and the US through a big international crisis. You cannot stop the Chinese with a wall (and even then, the Chinese are much better at building walls ).

Well, he already is at logger heads with the Catholic Churches pontiff and in a serious scuffle with Islam, who is next? The Buddhists? People of the Hindu faith?

Maybe he can go after the choir boys of America or the Boy Scouts. There are always more people to offend because if you think calling war heroes losers/and mocking handicapped people is as low as one can get, then I fear that those people may be disappointed because it seems there no line of indecency he will not cross if he feels slighted or criticized.

Instead of insulting Trump supporters, explain what's wrong with what he said. If Japan will indeed send military troops to defend the US if we are attacked them say so.

This is so rich. Ignorant Trump does not understand the irony of what he blathered. Trump says that Japan won't send troops if the US is invaded. But, in 1947, after WWII, it was the US that helped craft Article 9 of the Japanese Constitution, which forbids Japan from fielding any kind of military force that can venture outside of the nation. They are only allowed to have defense forces.

But it gets even better. Ignorant Trump doesn't do his homework. Had he done so, he would have read the following:

In July 2014, instead of using Article 96 of the Japanese Constitution to amend the Constitution, the Japanese government approved a reinterpretation which gave more powers to the Japan Self-Defense Forces, allowing them to defend other allies in case of war being declared upon them, despite concerns and disapproval from mainland China and South Korea, whereas the United States of America supported the move. This change is considered illegitimate by some Japanese political parties and citizens, since the Prime Minister circumvented Japan's constitutional amendment procedure.[1][2][3] In September 2015, the Japanese National Diet made the reinterpretation official by enacting a series of laws allowing the Japan Self-Defense Forces to provide material support to allies engaged in combat internationally. The justification is that by not defending/supporting an ally, it would weaken alliances and endanger Japan.[4]

So, actually, Japan WILL help out if the US is invaded. Once again, Ignorant Trump is as Ignorant Trump does.

Some just don't get it. Many Americans WANT us to question these things. Why IS Japan one of our closest allies? How many American dollars go from here to there toward what end? What's the quid pro quo? When we ask the question, "Why are we doing it that way?" The answer should be more in depth than "because we've done it that way for 70 years."

Well, Japan is one of our closest allies because we share the basic values of liberal capitalism and happen to be, like, two most powerful economies of the free world. And no offense to wonderful Taiwan and South Korea, but unless you want the Pacific to be dominated by Beijing and Moscow....

How many dollars go...where, exactly? We do not subsidize anything in Japan, save our own military bases. Would you rather have our military paid for/controlled by a foreign power, no matter how friendly?

Japan is as reliable an ally as we ever gonna get -right up there with Canada, Australia, UK and Poland. As usual, Trump has no idea what he is talking about (to put it in the mildest way I can manage).

General MacArthur imposed it right after WW2. It used to be taught in history classes.

The Japanese and Chinese hatred toward each is pretty damn legendary and goes back a long ways and has been very intense since the end of WW2, after Japan had murdered more than a few Chinese.

Its already been said several times here on the thread, but you seem to ignore the fact that Japan is not still under MacArthur controls, that they are a totally free country now and have been for a long long time.

The "imposed" nature that you refer to came from 70 years ago. Don't know if you've noticed, but a lot has changed in the world from almost a century ago now. Its high time the rest of the world, instead of just the American taxpayer, shoulder some of that heavy load we have been lifting, for pretty much these last 70 years, ALONE.

Somebody, indeed, needed to bring up the topic... as well as others that are ignored and kicked down the line to further generations with the problems not getting better by ignoring them, but getting worse. Say what you will about Trump, but he at least takes on the hard stuff, is willing to take the hits from those with far more ignorant views, those who choose to just continue to ignore our large and growing problems.

That was fine, perhaps necessary for the short term. We are now in a world with a much stronger and richer Japanese economy than just after WW2. Japan can certainly choose to remain pacifist, but they do need to shoulder, and can certainly afford to pay some of the cost of their protection; cannot all just be borne by the American taxpayer forever.

He is NOT an imbecile. He is like the rest of America under informed. Most people wouldn't know that it was us who made the Japanese accept their current constitution. Further is us who insisted they forbid their military to operate offensively, or to come to the aid of other nations. We are the ones who put the Japanese military in their current position. We did all this directly after WW2.

Anybody who knows basic history knows why Japan isn't very militaristic anymore. Anybody who watches yeh news and has a decent memory can recall the legislation. Trump apparently falls into neither of those categories.
