George, my post was to a guy who lives there and was touting that they shut down China which is why they has a low death rate. It is noteworthy that I didn't get a response. The reason is because he was embarrassed. Trump shut down travel from China BEFORE New Zealand did.

And that is because the virus in NYC came from travel from Europe, not China

Trumps shutting down travel from China did very little. Especially as France and Italy had the virus in December

Roughly about the same time america did. But we did not close just to china but to everyone. Where as america still had open borders to others just not china.

PS you did not get a response is because of time difference not because of embarrassment. I need not be embarrassed it is your country that failed to close it's borders except where trump thought it politically advantages to himself to do so rather than any concern for the health of americans.

And no, i said no such thing. We had a low infection and death rate because we acted sensibly and with concern for each other. Where as america continues to demonstrate that not only is stupidity considered a right but one they intend to exercise to its fullest.

Sounds like shutting down travel from China was pretty much irrelevant if New Zealand shut down travel later and had a far, far better outcome than we did.

I can’t imagine why anyone from New Zealand would be embarrassed about their COVID response.

Our problem is we aren’t controlling community spread.

Because we are on levels 2 and 3 . It limits the amount of people who can gather in a crowd. The government gets more air time because of its covid response which gives it the advantage. Out of fairness for all the parties to campaign equally.

NZ is on levels 2 and 3 because of the fear of infection. No fear of infection means no restrictions and the parties can campaign.

The reaction to an outbreak isn't as america does which is do nothing and ignore the deaths that follow.

The election was postponed because a level three makes it impossible for crowds to gather and so make it difficult for politicians to have meetings and express their platform.

I understand a fair election is just a laughable notion in america but other countries really do care about such things.

The parliamentary system allows the government in power to say when the elections will be, provided there is an election at least every 5 years.

Ours system requires that the election be on a particular day each 4 years.

That's all there is to it.

it is all public access information that the government is advertising constantly.

As your linked article pointed out, New Zealand had a 44% jump in COVID1- deaths in a single day. That's MUCH worse than the worst day that the US ever had so that means that the US is, obviously, doing MUCH better at dealing with COVID-19 than the jumped up People's Democratic Socialist Monarch of New Zealand is.

The "minor" point that you appear to have inadvertently overlooked, is that it is NOT "unconstitutional" for the New Zealand government to delay an election.

Another "minor" point is that the New Zealand Prime Minister does NOT have the legal ability power to do so (or to force an election to be being called for that matter).

and admit that the US has an ACTUAL PROBLEM rather than pretending that it's all some sort of election propaganda that doesn't mean anything in real life?
