No, that is not how real news works. Real news is about getting the scoop, from sources that don't want to known for if they were, they would breach their confidence and we could not get the story. What real news does for quality control is to have a journalistic process that includes understanding the crediblilty of the source, having substantial elements corroborated with another credible source and then documenting these steps to an editor. If the story is really big, the editor is subject to review. If it is a real news source, on the caliber to the NYT, WaPo, WSJ, LA Times, Chicago Sun-Times, etc. This is how it works.

By contrast, in the political porn world, they deal in conspiracy theory.... the idea of corroborating the stories of the witness is often not done unless they know they will get corroboration.... iow, that process is rigged to not really want the truth, they merely want a story that they can somewhat support. Given you seemingly live in this world, we can certainly understand why you would not know how real news works.

All that notwithstanding, as to this specific story, throwing hissy-fits when things to not go his way is Trump's MO. This is consistent with just about everything that has been written about him.

Everyone who goes to press - even with a named source - contacts unnamed sources for verification of the facts. That's how journalism works. People "on the record" ? Maybe 10%. People don't want to suffer reprisals, people don't want to be accused of betrayal by their colleagues, and people don't want to be fired from their jobs. Go figure, eh?
