The American propaganda mill has succeeded in convincing far too many Americans that the country is failing. Evidently some of the (white) male Americans have therefore come to believe that the nation needs a more 'masculine' leader, a man like Donald J Trump - a man who appears to be over compensating for personal failures

Donald Trump is a parody of American manhood — and that's what lifts him

The most popular candidate among white American men is a parody of American manhood. By now, we have become used to the frat-boy performance that defines Donald Trump’s candidacy: the sexual boasting, the condescending or outright insulting treatment of women, the open discussion about the size of his penis. As we approach the general election, it becomes ever more clear that Trump’s flagrant and empty machismo is not a distraction from his campaign but its substance.

Trump’s appeal cannot be ideological; that’s a given. Technically Trump represents the Republican Party, and Republicans will form his base of support in November. But he doesn’t endorse traditional Republican policies and several key members of the conservative intellectual class have described him as a fascist. Certainly he is not a Democrat either. His basic political incoherence has driven his style into the foreground.

His hair alone is an icon of vapid masculine braggadocio. - — a balding man who owns the most radical comb-over in history

So what you're saying is that we'd be better off with a feminine, wimpy male with a good head of hair?

What really kills me about this crap is that as piss poor a candidate as Trump is the left chooses to base their distaste on the fact that he's white, obnoxious and has bad hair. They've managed to become more shallow even than his supporters.

From what I've seen, the typical leftist male dislikes any kind of masculinity. The author of the article is probably one of them--or a leftist woman. One's about as masculine as the other.

Ahhh, another nanny nanny boo boo story from the anti-tumpeteers. My, aren't they just so elite! :lamo

the analogy i preferred was observing how tRump has brought professional wrestling practices into the political arena

and for his demographic, it works

Truthfully the white American male has suffered over the past 30 years. He went from being the "looked up upon" breadwinner and leader in his family, workplace and community; to seeing that dynamic entirely flip on its head as woman and minorities together both entered the workplace, began showing up in the media, entertainment and other positions of leadership, and started taking on the role of family breadwinner.

As a group, being knocked down from the top is very similar to a perspective where "the country is failing."

Trump's not overcompensating for anything ... he's a Grade A megalomaniac.

Bad hair, eh? I'll put hair on the list of presidential considerations.

how about the chronic need to hide such natural shortcomings

yea, i'm also talking about his tiny hands

Essentially. I think a ton of older whites males would be fine with jumping in a time machine and going back 40-20 years ago.

Everyone else ... not so much. Including me. I'm white and male, but ... no marriage equality, Right Right, no employment protections, HIV/AIDs, etc. No thanks.
The USA is much greater now for me that it was before.

I'll add that to the list too. Realize that the hair thing alone disqualifies both Biden and Bernie as well, and perhaps Hillary if we can prove she's wearing wigs. Now I'm wondering which candidates use electric toothbrushes.

Hm.

Well, I'm not much of a leftist. But I'd say that I can agree with the basic thrust of the OP.

Oh, the wimp-centric view of things comes thorough in most of what the elite media pundits write. They don't know how to change a tire, fix a flat, unstop a toilet, start a campfire, change the oil and filter, sharpen a knife, take care of a leaky pipe, hang a picture, shine their shoes, shave with a razor, paddle a canoe, grill with charcoal, throw a football, split firewood, read a map, play poker, hunt, fish, do a squat or dead lift, use a chainsaw (safely), tie a bowline or a tie, cook breakfast, shoot, or jump start a car, but they'll tell us how we should all live.

I've never considered Trump's blustering a sign of manliness. I understand the argument that it is sort of a sham version that a lot of people, maybe having watched too many movies, mistake for toughness. I tend to think he is more hot air than grit, and would not make a particularly strong president. Someone so loud and brash invites a tough, calculating opponent not to take him seriously.

President Kennedy, to cite one example, didn't need to act vulgar, boorish, or insulting to convince adversaries he meant just what he said. Sending a hundred warships, a thousand armed aircraft, and a hundred thousand troops into forward positions near Cuba in October, 1962, and doing it all in about ten days, showed strength and resolve in a way that no amount of loud talk ever could have. Khurshchev had lectured Kennedy at their 1961 meeting in Vienna, scolding him like a boy--"no older than my son!"--and Kennedy admitted to a friend that "he just beat the hell out of me." And yet Khrushchev acknowledged in his memoirs that he had later come to have great respect for Kennedy.

It must be a stark contradiction to your senses eh?

Being we've only had 5 bald presidents one should probably put that as well as height as a consideration.

The most important thing about this article is that it made me think "Does Trump even lift, bruh?"

On a slightly more serious note. I find Trump more a parody of politicians than of manhood. But that's just me.

True. That "You must be at least this tall" thing eliminated Rubio right out of the gate. The bald thing probably won't count anymore because unless you have your head completely shaved, wear a goatee, an ear ring, and have a few tats, I don't think you're counted as being bald anymore. Now, if Hillary is bald under that wig, it could be construed as an attribute.
