Pelosi officially disinvites Trump from the State of the Union

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) officially will not allow President Trump to deliver the State of the Union address on the House floor next week.

In a letter to Trump on Wednesday, Pelosi said that she will not permit a vote on a resolution allowing Trump to speak before both chambers of Congress until the government is re-opened.

As you know, I had already accepted your kind invitation, however, I then received another letter from you dated January 16, 2019, wherein you expressed concerns regarding security during the State of the Union Address due to the Shutdown,” it reads.

“Even prior to asking, I was contacted by the Department of Homeland Security and the United States Secret Service to explain that there would be absolutely no problem regarding security with respect to the event. They have since confirmed this publicly. Accordingly, there are no security concerns regarding the State of the Union Address.”

Setting a precedent that the POTUS can hold the government hostage over funding for something he couldn't get normally, is something we should all fight against.

If flights are halted and flying becomes too dangerous the blame is on the Democrats. Trump can declare a national emergency and win, especially if lives are lost.

He’s required to provide the state of the union information to Congress by the Constitution, but there is no requirement it be done as a speech in the House of Representatives.
