Don't worry about the oil spilling into the Gulf, Rep. Don Young (R-Alaska) says, because the worst spill in U.S. history is "not an environmental disaster," just nature taking its course.

"This is not an environmental disaster, and I will say that again and again because it is a natural phenomenon," Young said after Congressional hearings last week. "Oil has seeped into this ocean for centuries, will continue to do it. During World War II there was over 10 million barrels of oil spilt from ships, and no natural catastrophe. ... We will lose some birds, we will lose some fixed sealife, but overall it will recover."

It seems the Republican, who is criticized from both sides of the aisle, feels something is only a disaster if it can't be recovered from.

Since the earth can recovery from the oil being spilled, though it might take centuries, it is not a disaster. No matter that it was completely man-made, people died, billions might be lost in tourism and fishing industry and that many ecosystems in the gulf might be completely destroyed. It's not a disaster.

Oh good now we don't have to worry about that silly little spill anymore.

That meteor that hit Yucatan? Earth recovered. Not a disaster.

Just as well you were not personally in the area when that meteor hit, imagine your thoughts might have been different.

The Earth / Gulf will recover, that is fact, what is not certain is the length of time that will elapse before that recovery is complete, it will almost certainly be years with regards to bottom vegetation and may even be decades with refards to sea creatures and birds etc.

[sarcasm] Hurricane Katrina not a disaster, Gulf oil spill not a disaster, Yucatan crash not a disaster; Obama being partisan-- RED ALERT [/sarcasm]

Also probably pretty good thing that homo sapien hadn't yet evolved because it would have wiped us out...
