I know this is an old topic, but who do you think deserved Dokdo island.

My opinion was South Korea, partly because of heritage and that Korea owned it before Japan forcibly annexed Korea

You're right on target.
Dokdo is rightfully ours. We owned it before Japan annexed us, we have historical documents about it, and it was discovered about 2 years ago that even ancient Japanese officials admitted in Japanese documents that Dokdo was ours. There was a survey once in which random people in Korea was asked if they know where Dokdo is. Then, the people who made the survey went to Japan and asked people there. Almost everybody in Korea at least knew what sea it was in (The East Sea), and what was the nearest island (Ulleungdo). However, almost nobody in Japan knew where it was (most even didn't have a general idea. Som even never heard of it).

Why Dokdo is important: Not only does it provide a vast fishing source, it also has natural resources stored below that is worth a lot of money. Also, it challenges our sovereignty to our country as if Japan challenges Dokdo and wins, then it could challenge our country. Dokdo may be small, but the resources and the sentiment it has is very big.

Is Dokto/Takeshima even capable of independently sustaining human habitation? If not, it can't be used as a continental baseline for territorial waters or EEZ under international law.

It is capable of sustaining human habitation. About 30 people live there I think. It's also a popular tourist destination for South Koreans, can't say the same thing about Japanese tourists who say that the island they hardly know about is theirs.
