DOJ is real heating up!

Appears that the DOJ is really moving into high gear. I have always been of the opinion they were pursuing a case against Trump and his inner circle but were working through it in a methodical and thorough way. Based on their actions of late I think they have entered a more aggressive phase. Some big names are being called to testify before the Grand Jury and today it is being reported that the DOJ is building a legal case to counter any claims of executive privilege. The premise seems to be that executive privilege cannot be claimed in a criminal action. It worked for Watergate. That tells me they are after Trump directly. This ought to have Trump a tad ansy!
 
They've always been after Trump. As long as he signals he may run in 2024, it will most definitely move to pursuit of criminal charges.

I don't believe for one minute that is top of mind with Garland. However, I do believe Trump supporters will consider this just another "witch hunt". They simply don't care what Trump did in terms of trying to overturn the election by installing fake electors so he could remain in power. They only care that somebody dead might have voted.
 
This is about strategy. If Trump would have disappeared and removed himself then we would not likely be where we are today. But Trump keeps going full steam ahead and is actively backing candidates and hinting at running again. This hearing and subsequent DOJ action is not random happenstance, it's a gameplan. Question is will it have the desired effect for Democrats or will it make Trump a martyr of sorts?
 
Maybe if he hadn't attempted to steal an election and instigate a coup? Just spit ballin' here.

Well, I'm sure we'll see insurrection charges at some point, shouldn't we?

Whether or not Loser #45 declares his intent to run for office again has nothing to do with the necessary work of DOJ investigating and prosecuting all those involved in the illegal and unconstitutional attempt to overturn the legitimate election results.
 
I totally disagree with you. Merrick Gartland is not the type of person who takes trampling on the Constitution and democracy lightly. When he says no one is above the law he actually means it. Now the January 6th Commission ...that is a different story.

When you regularly show a wanton disregard for the law, you'll tend to attract the attention of investigators.
 
That's certainly one perspective and that's just fine. I personally believe had he disappeared and removed himself from politics this would have been over and done with many moons ago with no DOJ action. For me though, this was always the logical next step so it's going to be loads more interesting than the prime time hearings.
 

I strongly feel they should pursue this regardless of whether he wants to run again. There are risks, both legally and politically, to pursuing a case against a former president. But the risk of doing nothing and letting it slide far outweigh those considerations.

One big reason Trump probably felt so emboldened and brazen enough to pull off such a blatant and shameless stunt is because we didn't pursue Nixon after Watergate and make a good example of him back then. The folks who make it to the White House are starting to think they can get away with anything. I understand there is some respect for the office and some hesitation to prosecute a sitting or former president. But Trump was a guy who did not understand his limits. At some point even they need to understand they are not above the law. We should not repeat that mistake again.

Trump is a shockingly rude, arrogant, and disrespectful individual whose mama should have slapped upside the head and taught him some manners and respect when she had the chance. Obviously, she failed as a parent. His dad sent him off to some military academy hoping they could teach him- but obviously they failed miserably as well. It's now up to society to put him in his place.

If you really are for the party of "law and order", you should be all for this. Remember, the next guy who decides to pull off a stupid stunt like this may have a (D) after his/her name. Be careful of the precedent being set.

I doubt that. More likely charges are similar to what the most serious charges have been for the rioters, Seditious Conspiracy and Obstruction of Congress. There has also been talk of Conspiracy to defraud the American people. Charges against Trump will focus on his conspiring to overturn a legally certified election in order to stay in power illegally. Something I notice Trump supporters avoid like the plague...this is not all about the riots.
 
That's cool. Merrick Garland is political regardless of what he may say or what people may think. I do agree that no one is above the law and if this goes to a criminal proceeding there will be more than one net cast which should make for very interesting results.

They will pursue it because that's the course they've charted. To back out now would be worse than moving forward. I'm not against a criminal proceeding in the slightest. Just as the Democrats have a strategy, so does Trump. It will be a dogfight in court and interesting to see what comes to light.
 
On the one hand, of course traitor don should be convicted of the serious crimes he committed, and jailed despite the political stress to the country as the third in his cult are infuriated and don't understand and think we're a third world country imprisoning political opponents. But on the other hand, while we do that, I think the country would do better to stop paying any other attention to trump if possible.

Since when does the disaster who loses the election get more press than the current President who is fixing his messes and pursuing good policies? How much did Nixon keep getting press? No, he was basically a pariah, and traitor don is a lot worse even than Nixon.

If by that you mean had pursued his legal options in court and when that failed conceded the election facilitated the peaceful transition of power and then disappeared then I agree.

100000000% From my point of view, it makes the most common of common sense. If Trump had truly dropped off the face of the earth politically after Jan, do you think the DOJ would be eager to set the precedent of going after an outgoing President 2yrs later? Pretty obvious that Trump wasn't going away so this has always been a part of the calculations.

Yes, I mean dropped out of the public eye altogether afterwards and kept out of politics. He's staying involved so these are the next steps in the political flowchart.

...and Trump. I think the investigation into Trump started the day after GArland was sworn in.
