Does Russia have a realistic chance of conquering west Europe?

Would it even try? What if our troops in Europe came home? I very much doubt Putin could take west Europe even if we weren't there.

European Union Military Strength (2020)

Regardless, the EU has (theoretically) over 1.5 million personnel, nearly 7,700 tanks, 2,450 aircraft (including helicopters), and nearly 550 warships and submarines on call.

If the Russians launch a highly coordinated attack, and all the EU countries are disorganized, then maybe.

In WWII, countries didn't use gas, mustard or nerve, even though they had it. In WWIII, countries might not use nukes.

I think if the EU doesn't defend itself as well as it should, Russia will start taking over its formerly Soviet Union countries, Ukraine, Georgia, Belarus, etc. Once Russia has all that land, who knows?

Especially if they use salami tactics...

Germany and Russia are slowly moving towards an alliance, so why should Russia contemplate invading the ruler of the EU? The former is in favour of NATO being disbanded and welcomes the withdrawal of US troops from Europe.

If anyone thinks a Russia - German alliance is unlikely they should recall that the foreign policy experts of the time laughed to scorn the possibility of the 1939 Molotov-Ribbentrop pact.

You might add Estonia and the other two Baltic states to your list. Germany is beginning to press for the disbanding of NATO; no longer serves a purpose, they say. I think this is scary and I bet the Poles do too.

Over the last few years I have seen things that suggest what you're saying is true.

Russia could do it, but there’s likely to be a nuclear exchange in the process.

How? The EU has a large military force, nukes of their own and a combined GDP that dwarfs anything Russia is capable of by magnitudes.

Russia can easily overrun half of the European Union before NATO could muster a response. And the question remains whether NATO even would.

Why would Russia want to conquer Western Europe? They had enough problems occupying Eastern Europe.

1. In my opinion, Russia could not conquer Western Europe.

2. I have read (and believe) that morale in the Russian armed forces is very low.

3. I do not think that President Putin would invade, for if the Russian forces were defeated, it would lead to President Putin's downfall, and he apparently has plans to stay in power for the rest of his life.

All the more reason to get Trump the hell out of the WH.
