Mind over matter. Prayer itself doesn't actually affect anything.
If praying affects someone's mind, then it does affect something.

All prayer does is make someone feel better.
That is of great value though.
yes, but a mental comfort mechanism is far from useless.
God?Mad props to Lisa for the meme.
Now:
If you pray to god, and god "answers your prayers", did you effectively "change god's plan"?
If not, then praying was useless right?
If so, then what you're saying is god can change his mind/plan. Correct?
It does when they try to push it on others. That's where I draw the line.
Agreed if your trying to think up best scenarios for reasons to believe in a god. Worst scenario for reasons would be because as an adult they like talking to their imaginary friend.Like a child talking to their imaginary friend.
That begs the question, if heaven is so great, why not let people die so they can go there? Instead they pray for survival or seek medical intervention. One facet of prayer I never understood even when I was a Christian was praying for the recovery of seemingly terminally ill people. Wouldn't it be better for them in heaven? Why pray they survive; perhaps pray for a quick painless death instead?
(Which tells you that even Christians know deep down this one life is all there is)
Does "prayer" potentially change god's mind/plan?
In the context of the OP:If praying affects someone's mind, then it does affect something.
I can't think of any "best" scenarios or reasons to believe in God.Agreed if your trying to think up best scenarios for reasons to believe in a god. Worst scenario for reasons would be because as an adult they like talking to their imaginary friend.
Considered and dismissed. Hard pass! You may wish to consider the following
You may wish to consider the following:
Some people say that God answers all prayers
I have actually had people tell me God plays favorites. Naturally, they considered themselves to be among the favorites.Prayer is asking God for a wish. To suspend the natural order for you.
I've always frowned on the notion that certain people are blessed, and others not somuch. As if God plays favorites, and you think you're among them.
There's a certain degree of ego involved in both thinking you're blessed and thinking that God will grant you wishes.
I don't participate but I might bow my head.I've never had someone force me to pray.
if I am in a room of people praying, i bow my head and participate because i'm not an asshole.
Funny how that always works out that way.I have actually had people tell me God plays favorites. Naturally, they considered themselves to be among the favorites.
I am a firm believer in the world war one meme, there are no atheists in a foxhole.I can't think of any "best" scenarios or reasons to believe in God.
I wouldn't even do that much. At most, I'll remain quiet and do my own thing.I don't participate but I might bow my head.
Can you be a christian and NOT believe that?I have actually had people tell me God plays favorites.
That is a common, but incorrect assumption. It's also not indicative of "real" faith or belief. Rather, it's an emotional response.I am a firm believer in the world war one meme, there are no atheists in a foxhole.
Agreed.I wouldn't even do that much. At most, I'll remain quiet and do my own thing.
Probably notCan you be a christian and NOT believe that?
Isn't the Christian mantra that only Christians go to heaven, and everyone else goes to hell?Probably not
At least to those who believe theirs is the "correct" religion.Isn't the Christian mantra that only Christians go to heaven, and everyone else goes to hell?
That's playing favorites isn't it?
Can you be a christian and NOT believe that?
