Obama referred to ISIS as a cancer. Does ISIS have a place in the 21st century?
If the President of the United States mentions you, you have at least been noticed, dead or alive.
I dont know what this means.

They have been noticed and obviously have a place in this century. This is true even, if they have to be eliminated.
Nice try, but two highly selective photos purporting to be ISIS does not tell me why they have to be "obliterated".
How are they so much worse than the Taliban, still running the multi-billion dollar drug trade in Afghanistan/Pakistan. Or, how they are worse than the Russian battalions poised on the Ukraine frontier. Other than a very dramatic designed to provoke video taped beheading I have seen no evidence this group of freedom fighters/terrorists/extremists is any worse than the terrorists/extremists/celebrants who assassinated Ambassador Stephens, sending a message to the world it is OK to kill US diplomats.
I fear you are being manipulated as in"Wag the Dog", a perfect distraction orchestrated by the White House which the right easily embraces and the left will ignore as they would anything that will keep them near or in office. There is conflict here yes, war yes, atrocities likely. Deaths of journalists, always in war, Canada has lost two in three months or so.
Other than those who have deliberately put themselves there, are there any American lives in direct peril?
Obama needed a war when he was talking about "international community" and "red line" and a "teensy attack" on Syria. Then, as polls continued to tumble he thought "regime change" in Ukraine was a cool gig, oops, Putin failed to win hockey gold in the Olympics, now has to prove HE still has a dick, and suddenly there is no more talk of military interventions, but "Sanctions" instead, the same kind of sanctions Obama said didn't work anyway when he gave back $600 billion to Iran.
So now, we're back in Syria, well actually Iraq V3.0 but just a missile lob east of where he was hoping to "attack" last spring.
Why is ISIS so much worse than any other terrorist group, including Al Qaeda? Is it because there are mid terms soon?

Dont fall into the trap of forming an opinion based on those photos. We know who they are and what they do.
This is entirely irrelevant from the coming elections, though I think that will tend to favor republicans.
No wag the dog here, they are worse than AQ in that they are more violent, more fundamentalist, more diffuse, and have greater funding. And they are in Iraq because the US isn't.
Did you misunderstand the question? I did not ask if they had been noticed.
If they can carve one out for themselves, they have just as much of a "place" in the 21st Century as anyone else.
Modern "Liberal" ideology has no definite claim to the modern era. We simply happen to be powerful right now, which translates into a large degree of international influence.
As our power fades, so too will the level of influence we are able to exert.
Isis is a political group, they take land by violence and intimidate to maintain control. This isn't a nation with historical, cultural, or ethnic history-its a gang.
You say. I have not seen any such evidence. As to falling into a trap, you actually think the photo of all the guns aimed at aninfant is not deliberately staged?
The original Jihadists who overran the early medieval world were much the same. It didn't stop them.
It didn't stop the Taliban, the Communist movements of the early 20th Century, or Hitler either.
With no one to stop them, I think you'd be surprised at just how much a militant political group like ISIS could potentially accomplish.
Considering what ISIS actually does put out, I can't rule that out. If you have evidence otherwise I could be convinced about that pic-but not about ISIS.

Still, there is not one indication of what they do that makes them so evil.
No, their stated objectives and actions taken do that.
Slaughtering religious and ethnic minorities, children and non-combatants en masse?
Still, there is not one indication of what they do that makes them so evil.
Until I get that, I cannot help but see this an another WMD Iraq caper. It's not like the US has a good track record there, Berlin Wall, Iranian hostage taking, Arab Spring, WMD's, Putin's resolve in Ukraine.....
And isn't the"War on Terror" the slaughtering of religious and ethnic minorities?
