I cannot think of a better way to word my question, so sorry if it is confusing.

One of my basic principals is that since society exists through the interaction of people, we are its creators and therefore its owner. This give us the right to basically do whatever we want with it. Do you agree or disagree?

What society is is hard to put into words. If society comes to a progressive consensus it is completely fine for it to refashion itself. Unfortunately many of the socialist aspirations of the 20th century were not to popular consent, were utopian, and radical.

Considering society is exactly this -- the interaction of people with each other -- who but humanity would "own" it?

Not even gods would.

I think this is a bit like asking if the air owns the currents. Society is an interaction, not an object.

If by ownership, you mean responsibility...then yes.

Well the reason I ask, is that the logical conclusion is if we own it, we are free to do what we want with it. This means we can rightfully shape it any way we please. Ultimately, this is an argument against any sort of predefined structure such as natural law, religious law, or any philosophy, really, unless of course that is our preference.

Yeah, people do control society, but the spread of influence over the ability to change society is highly inequal. When you have a few people like Lady Gaga and the like basically dictating what society does to everyone.

*Goshin, sensing a trap, evades Megaprogman's web of logic with the classical "Rootebega Maneuver", popularized by Captain Quirk in the Chess Wars of the early eleventy-first century. Having thus evaded, he is now free to continue his piratical ways elsewhere, muwahahahaha.*

I would approve a chaste of mega technocrats trained in statecraft from birth to guide our nations into the future!
