Does anyone actually believe Trump's "correction" of when he says misspoke?

No.

When I saw that press conference, the opening statements felt like a normal meeting between two heads of state.

A bit later, it felt like I was watching the press interview two Russians.

Answer me one question.

How come he went so far with Kim Jung-un as to call him "little rocket man" and that our button is bigger than his but with Putin, he says he is "nice, strong, and that all he wants is a good working relationship with the U.S."? Why is he a bully with Kim but a lamb with Vlad? After all, we truly could blow them both out of the water if we wanted to. In addition, Putin has nothing of value that he can give us. Trump is not interested at all in Syria or the inhumanities going on there, which was proven by this desire to separate mothers from their kids. Why the chummy relationship with Putin?
 
I'm truly surprised that no major players in the Trump Administration didn't resign in protest after the wimping out in front of the world.
Treason or near treason performance Trump put on.

No, I believe him. The military guy did not mispeak. He just realized that it could be problems for him and he did the same thing that Trump did, he tried to explain it away.

Hell, I would like Trump to be removed militarily myself. I do not see Trump as My President. He does not represent me or my needs. I am 73 and I do not want to see my Social Security or Medicare affected by Trump and I worry that at some point he will cut them down if for no other reason than his rich friends want a bigger piece of the pie.

Trump has said all those things regularly.
The right wing partisan media (Hannity, Tucker, Dobbs, etc.) have all said those same things or agreed with POTUS,.
Most of the usual suspect Trump supporters on this forum have said those things, in agreement with Trump. Possibly you if we look through your post history.

He did not say one stupid thing, he said about a dozen.

Given all that, you believe it was just a gaffe. That's why Trump supporters are evidencing themselves to be morally bankrupt IMO.
 

You misunderstood my comment about the military guy. I said I believed him when he said he wanted a military take over of Trump, not that he "mispoke" He did the same thing that Trump did by trying to back off because of the consequences.

On your statement about "I could care less about how you feel" is exactly the problem with what is happening. We should all be caring about what happens to all Americans. We are supposed to be a family and family cares about all involved. The fact you do not care, means that we fight each other instead of fighting for one another.

Your statement certainly shows you to be a Trumpian to the core. Lack of caring is the problem that all of us on the outside of the President't caring are experiencing and yet we ALL ARE AMERICANS.

Isn't this what you complained about when Obama was President? That he did not listen to or fulfill YOUR needs. So now that the tables are turned, you are doing the same. How is that better? It's better because you are benefitting from it at the cost of everyone else. That makes you a revengeful person as well as a person that will take advantage of others without even knowing them.

In fact, the normally obtuse MSM has picked up this theme much to my amazement. As we have been saying here what Trump said in Helsinki fits seamlessly into his personal and political perspective. It simply does not match the rest of the US Government! Hardly any of what Trump said from the Podium in Helsinki meets the perspective of the US Government. So his walk-back yesterday of one segment of his Helsinki podium nonsense is not credible and this takes us back to where I have been all along.

A) If Trump was not ready or willing to embrace the posture of the US Government from the podium at a meeting with a head of state, HE SHOULD NOT HAVE GONE IN THE FIRST PLACE
B) The fallout we are seeing from Helsinki entirely stems from Trump's unwillingness to do the job of the Chief Executive when meeting with another head of state
C) I actually am torn with whether Kelly was right to demand Trump try to walk this back or if Trump who appears to be unhappy that he walked that one liner back at least as it relates to a purely political decision was right. Again, you cannot remake the circumstance of speaking from the podium meeting with another head of state. The damage was done. I tend to think Kelly is kidding himself.

I understand Kelly's position. But there is no make up exams for Presidents. Trump has been telling most of the US Electorate to take a long walk off a short pier since he got to office. So a case can be made that as bad as Helsinki was, Trump might have been no worse off than he is now had he not tried what is really only a sliver of a walk-back. He is still going to get creamed for his original comments as the walk back had no credibility. This might actually turn out to be Kelly's swan song for what its worth.

In a word, yes. I expected Trump to stand there and rebuke Putin/Russia for meddling in our electoral/political process. There was really nothing else for Trump to say other than, "You meddled in our 2016 electoral process. You've continued to meddle in our political processes. We know it. You know it. And if you don't cease and desist immediately, you will face consequences of our choosing."

Normally the answer would have been "no" because normally, a head of state would make an unequivocal statement of the sort described above, and they'd do so before appearing in person with the adversarial head of state. But Trump didn't do that. In fact, he has yet to make any unequivocal declaration, be it on our shores or elsewhere. The whole of Congress and the whole of Trump's intelligence and military advisors and leaders have made unequivocal declarations that Russia clandestinely inserted itself into our 2016 presidential electoral/political process and that Russia did so with the express purpose of abetting Trump. Trump, however, has abjured doing making a similarly clear declaration. On the contrary, Trump has repeatedly cast doubt on the notion that Russia did insert itself into our 2016 presidential election/political process and that they did so with the express purpose of abetting his political ends.

Had Trump, before arriving in Helsinki, made the same unequivocal statement of the sort the Congress and his top advisors have made, there'd then have been no expectation of his doing so to Putin's face. Trump presents himself as a strongman.

Trump's got all sorts of "lip" for mere personal and political opponents. He'll openly undermine our allies' heads of state, yet when it comes to standing up to our adversaries' heads of state, he's "whiffed" every time. China was a currency manipulator until he faced Chairman Xi. KJU was "little" and Trump told us the nuclear threat from KJU/the DPRK was over, only to have it come out that nothing of the sort is so. And this week, when he should have put Putin in his place, he effectively fellated him instead. Trump is no different than any other blustering bully: weak and cowardly at the core.
