It does not harm the democrats, if anything it stregthens them for having the courage to buck their Speaker.
It may well damage Pelosi as being the Speaker and having so strongly supported her friend and having her wishes denied.
It will strengthen the country which can clearly see that Pelosi's views are not necessarily going to be the ones adopted by Democrat Congress.

No, it doesn't harm the Democrats, but Nancy Pelosi sure started off badly. Murtha is a divisive figure, and she should have thought more about who she backed. This makes her look inneffective so soon after the election.

On the other hand, because it is so early in the process, and the new leadership hasn't even been sworn in yet, Pelosi should be given time to prove her worth.

First she contradicted herself about "most ethical" and then she proved she can't herd cats. Why be in charge if no one follows the lead?
