Rumpel:

I see modern-day Russia as a would-be Eurasian power which is just not strong enough to be the "power" it wishes to be. Since the times of the Tsars it has embraced Oriental absolutism coupled with Western, Occidental ideologies like state-capitalism and communism. So Russia is a hybrid of Asian and European influences in many ways, as you say. The ruling class in Russia sees itself as predominantly European however. The people less so.

Cheers and be well.

So it seems to be.

Both, but mostly European as that's where they've operated mostly for most of history. However, they are in bed with China so that puts them involved with the main power player in the Asian theater.

I don't think they're either... to me, they deserve their own separate classification. I think Winston Churchill had the best read on Russia, saying it was "a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma."

Actually, I tend to see it as it's own thing, not a power in either of those general groupings.

I think it will side with one or the other depending.

Russia is a military power only and that is mostly due to its nuclear capability. To be a true power, you need an economy that can not only fund your military but can threaten the economies of the other powers in your region.
